I don't think we do. I think it would result in the poor getting even poorer.

Why? Look what has happened to USA. I do not think that India would or should welcome vast rupee debt to China!

What was wrong with the ageold symbol 'Rs' that we have been using? That required no new font. Or the familiar crossed out 'R' which would have been better. They wanted to thrust the devanagari which is the origin of this new symbol!

The symbol "R" was taken by the South African Rand.

Mainly it will distinguish the Indian Rupee amidst many other rupees, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Nepali, Indonesian Rupiah, etc.,
