HOW TO MAKE THE HEADER TO APPEAR IN BOLD LETTERS.

Post by S.NAGESWARAN »

Dear Rasikas,

I am unable to make the header in bold letters whenever I post a letter in the Rasikars.org.

I would be happy if any rasika can enlighten me on this.

Thank you in advance.

Do you mean the thread title?

You cannot change that: it is fixed. Best that it is that way: all thread titles should be equal!

The problem is not with the header, but with the message. The header always appears in bold letters. When the text of the message is also set in bold, then both appear in bold letters without any visible difference.

I think it is summed up as... you cannot format the type in the thread heading or in the post subject.

Disclaimer: I could be wrong, I haven't experimented on this forum

HOW TO MAKE THE HEADER TO APPEAR IN BOLD LETTERS. .

Post by S.NAGESWARAN »

Dear Rasikas,

95 % of the titles in General discussions appear in bold letters while
my titles always appear in thin letters.

Kindly suggest the way to make my title of my posts appear in bold letters.

You must be referring to the list of topics under General Discussions.
New posts which have not been read by you will appear in bold. Once you open and read the new posts, the topic will no more be bold; it will turn into normal type.

When you create a new topic it will appear only in normal type in your computer. But, all other rasikas will see it in bold letters till the time they open it.

The heading of those posts which you have just then posted or those headings which you have already read changes to normal lettering. When a particular thread has not been read by you, it appears in BOLD. This is just to remind you, as to which threads you have read and which you haven't. If everything is in Bold or otherwise, you will be reading the same thread again and again.

nAgeshwaran Sir,
As kssr says the heading getting bold and non bold is personalized to every user to indicate if each forumite has unread or read the post.

If I am right , what you are seeking is once when you post in a thread , after you login after few days you find it very very difficult to spot that thread in the deluge of posts in the forum as you lose the continuity to remember that thread .I suggest for you to recollect and refer again, all you need is to bookmark and add that page to the bookmark in your browser, that way you have a quick reference to get to that page .

It is the quantum effect. The very act of observation changes things ;)

Like the Theory of Relativity, Quantum jump or Quantum leap has been widely (ab)used in fields unrelated to physics. Stock analysts, marketing specialists, sales people, and insurance brokers, to name a few, use the word "quantum" in their writings day in an day out. There is no more regular mechanics---everything is quantum mechanics. It is fancier, you see!

It is fine as long as it is understood. But here....well, at least I could not fathom the depth of the comment :)

I used to have this entertaining book on most misused words .
Quantum Jump was a great example.

It gave an example of an Airforce Chief proclaiming that the strength of Aircraft under his command was due to see a Quantum jump would only mean moving from an aircraft strength of Say X to X Plus 3 or 4 or 5 - :)

Dear Rasikas,

It is interesting to know that a small query of mine can lead us from magic to quantam theory.

Yes. Now I understand that there are a lot of titles to be read by me by presenting
Themselves in bold letters.

Thank you Rasikas,

Not quite. Technical words like 'quantum' have since come into common usage and can be used to mean things different from their original (strict)
meanings.
See here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/quantum
>>–adjective
6. sudden and significant: a quantum increase in productivity.<<

My attempt at quantum humor was re-targeted by mk through analysis and it went too serious from there :) ... ... But it looks like mine was too obscure to be even comprehensible ;) ( hint: uncertainty principle )

vk:
We don't want to get into such deep waters as Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and Einstein's "God does not play dice" pronouncement. To Einstein "quantum" had a different significance.

Well, Einstein believed there is a methodical madness (order/disorder) to the universe while Heisenberg relied on randomness and probability. I don't know if Einstein was agnostic when he was younger, but he certainly sounded gnostic in his later life. Perhaps that is the sign of the times for everybody when you realize the transient nature of human life and your inability to reshape the world.
