I missed out most of the unnati concerts except Sudha and Sanjay. Thanks to my office schedule, I am busy over the weekends too. Sudha took her time to adjust in the concert. Considering it was freezing in the auditorium, it did affect her voice. The concert hall was full and in fact people were standing outside the venue too to listen to her.

Kedargowla varnam was rendered with full bhava. The shanmukhapriya didn't impress me, though as usual her creativity was in full force while rendering the kalpana swaram. By now, her voice had kind of settled and the beautiful khamas composition by Dikshithar was rendered very well. The kalapramanam was perfect. Manirangu raga had it usual phrases, nothing that stood out. But she did justice to the krithi and kalpanaswara rendition. Akilandeshwari was a filler :). She announced that this being the centenary year she would sing a rare composition of the great GNB. Chaya Ranjani is a janya of Subha Pantuvarali. I haven't heard this one before and during the raga delineation she stressed on the jeeva swaras, that made us easy to identify the scale. The krithi was rendered in a very lively manner. The next was thodi. I am sure thodi is Sudha's one of favourite ragas. She rendered it for almost 20 mins and she did sruthi bedham to move into mohanam. Her panchama varga prayogas stood out well. The grand tyagaraja krithi was rendered. She did neraval at Sri Karuni srutha chintamani (in the charanam).

By now it was already nine and she didn't have much time for tukkadas. Of course audience poured in requests, I am sure Vishamara Kannan was one of them. It was such a cute scene to see a little boy dance like Krishna :). But during this krithi rendition, she rendered some slokas in tamil, which was a welcome change. Since Embar had to leave in half hour to chennai she was forced. Though Sudha took time to adjust in the initial half hour, the concert was good in the later half. Embar's support was just perfect. Occassionally he was disturbed due to continous ringing of mobile phones, but his thodi and chaya tharingini alapana stood out.

Skanda Subramaniam was good in patches. Since, he was unwell, that did speak on his performance. The ghatam vidwan also did a good job.

A word about the venue: Unnati is a small venue but the acoustics were good enough compared to other venues in bangalore.

This happened to be one of the very few that I *missed* in the Unnati concets. I attended all the others. Wish I could have attended this one as well. Sounds like a solid concert.
