Just another extremely mediocre jingle that won't turn a single head in the long run. I agree with carnaticlaw that it has nothing to do with "CM", the question is does it have anything to do with "music" ?!

Good music for me has to be of high caliber, not necessarily classical. Thus Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and a host of other bands produced high caliber non-classical music. I still can't think of a song that gave me more pleasure than "Shine on you crazy diamond".

But AR Rahman is a typical byproduct of the ultra-mediocre Indian film industry. Neither classical nor much caliber.

It will play well with the hand-clapping, foot-thomping sports crowd at the event. That is all! What is classic is not always popular and what is popular is not classical. :)

:) - I didnt know you were a Floyd fan (too).

Although I cannot relate as much to ARR's recent big ones (e.g. Slumdog), when he started out (Roja, Duet, and even later with misara kanavu etc.) - the music was quite captivating w.r.t melody itself (rather than being rhythm dominant). I recognize that he is as much a revolutionary as some of his predecessors. However, the emotive impact that Ilayaraja's songs have on me is in different league - probably because I grew up with his music. For some reason, than man makes this grown man'e eyes cloud more often than even the trinity ;-) ! And that is usually during a "happy song" :$

Don't like it at all. ARR's is trying too hard to copy other "anthems".

I think AR Rahman's period ended in the early 2000's. Unlike uday_shankar I feel his early music in Tamil films was in fact quite good. Unfortunately nowadays after his oscar he's decided scoring low-budget Hollywood movies is more important.....

Unfortunately I am not a fan of rock and roll or "Pink Floyd".

Since this is the carnatic forum, I will also say that I like Ilaiyaraja's pseudo-carnatic film songs more than rahman's by a wide stretch.

I don't like the theme song - too messy, no form, meanders all over the place. His Vande Mataram was good, but this one--- specially when you compare it to Pt Ravi Shankar's 'Swagatham' for the Asiad (1982). Maybe he had an 'off-day'. :D

I think you sound condescending which is not acceptable.

see, you are insulting the people who enjoy it. And this is not funny. If I choose to go to a Vijay or Ajith or anyone's movie, its my choice - you have no friggin business to insult my tastes.

got it?

why should they always rush to ARR (who is already overloaded ) to compose songs for such important occasions. Is the talent of our country so poor? mind boggling to think that it took 3 years and crores of rupees for this song How usefully this amount could have been spent to help very poor highly talented sportsmen who do not even have a pair of good shoes and denied intensive training for such competitions. Most of them do not have two square meals a day . utterly degradindg that the event has already caught the attention of other countries because of the huge corrupt ion involved....gobilalitha

A R Rahman should stop singing. He has a lousy voice and even lousier style of singing. The jury is out on his composing ability but he certainly is the Neil Young of film song as far as singing is concerned.

Since his Academy Award, he has a truly international profile.
For example, in January he performed to an audience of around 40,000 people in Sydney, Australia!

Apart from the theme songs, the Games have been a publicity nightmare for India. They are very behind schedule in building the facilities and a lot of allegations of corruption. Today 4 Indian wrestlers have tested positive for drugs!

India is so not ready for Commonwealth or any International games. Delhi roads are a complete mess, dug up everywhere, part-constructions, waiting construction, piles of rubble and garbage heaps in and around open dumpsters all over the city.

The U.S. has already issued a warning about Delhi roads and Australia has suggested to its teams not to stay for the Games, if at any point they felt unsafe or uncomfortable. Plus large-scale mosquito alerts have been issued. Recently, east Delhi is said to have been invaded by monkeys - one usually see hordes of them outside city limits, in the vicinity of Mathura-Vrindavan.

MM Singh could have used those thousands of crores on infra-structure, to get the country in better shape before conducting any tamashas like this.

I'm with uday ...and prashanth12!

When I first heard ARR songs I was charmed by them, and they seemed different to the other film stuff which I had no problem in instantly disliking. However, after that early period the difference disappeared. Same old mediocre stuff.

This song I didn't even get half way through. My opinion is that it is hardly music, let alone having any musical merit. I can actually think of quite a lot of stuff that would merit that description that I like very much! but this is a piece of nothingness

Didn't he compose that Tamil Conference song? Whilst that wasn't something I wanted to listen to more than twice, that is hugely better than half-way-and-never-again! Maybe they should have got MK to write the words!

Delhi and the games -- imminent massive flood warning on Yamuna waters entering Delhi.

.."Six lakh cusecs of water has been released from the Hatnikund barrage in the Yamuna, likely to make Yamuna overflow causing floods. The excess water released from Hatnikund has already caused a breach in the Markanda River damaging a portion of the Ambala-Saharanpur national highway and inundating 20 villages in the Yamunanagar area of Haryana."
