Though the title is of a popular song rendered by MS, it is also the title of a serial in a new TV channel called Sankara TV which I am told has a very good imprint in the rural areas and also abroad. The serial is on Carnatic music and serves two purposes; it educates people on various facets of our music, and two, it features snippets of music demonstrating the facets explained. for example, we have started with the evolution of music, and through the ages have followed its growth and development, dealing with various composers, and compositions.
We do not feature any other form of music. Our guests include Vidwans T.K>Govinda Rao, T.N.Seshagopalan, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Udayalur Kalyanaraman, S.R.Janakiraman.
The program is telecast on Saturdays between 9 and 9.30 pm and mOndays at 11am.
You may view a snippet on Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUakaUzvDM4
or on kamadhenutelefilms site.
Looking forward to your views

Re: MAITHREEM BHAJATHA
Probably the earlier episodes might have been missed, because the imprint has mostly been in Karnataka and is visible only in Chennai for the last six months or so. The serial was started with the blessings of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Vedavalli amma, and traced the origins of music from the Sama Veda. The great music composers of the pre Trinity era like Purandaradasa Bhadrachalam Ramadasar, Appar, sundarar, Gnanasambandar, Arunagirinathar adn Annamacharya were featured. Dr.Prameela Gurumurthy, Chitraveena Ravikiran, Tanjavur Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Mythili Kannan, Kodilingam Prof.Vaithiyalingam, have been the guests ohter than those mentioned earlier.
Right now we are in the Trinity period, where the saint composer Thyagaraja is presented by Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt.R.Vedavalli.
We are likely to go deeper into music appreciation, and there have been some queries from rasikas watching the program which have been answered.
The good news is that we are celebrating the 50th episode of this serial on the 17th September at RaniSeethai hall. the highlight will be a rendering of Maithreem Bhajatha by over 400 schoolchildren. N.Murali, President of the Music Academy and Sangeetha Kalanidhi Smt.R.Vedavalli.are our guests.
Watch out for a full bench rendering of BhajaGovindam and a concert tby T.M.Krishna
