Conveying the views of the Rasikas Forum

Post by CRama »

Moderators pl
Can we think of some method by which our views are conveyed to the appropriate authorities so that it will act as a feedback from the rasikas for the people who matter. For eg, the views aired by rasikas in respect of the review of TNS concert by SVK- We may compile the opinions expresssed by the rasika forum and pass it on to the critic as well as to the Hindu. We hope that at least the editor will use his pen appropriately in future. Similarly, many rasikas have expressed their views in respect of dwindling audience for veena concerts. If we can pass on the fedback to the Sabhas, it will be an eye opener for at least some of them. If the suggestion is accepted and is feasible, this can be applied to all the suggestions that may arise in the forum. By adopting this strategy we will be able to arrive at a logical conclusion for at least some of the issues like unsound sound management etc.

Our forum is open to all to read. Indeed it is open to all to join!

We do not, anyway, often have a view that is sufficiently unanimous to present as the viewpoint of rasikas.com, and we cannot expect the administrators or moderators to fulfil such a role. It would be a most unfair demand. The views we express are our own, as individuals.

Forum threads can be misleading anyway. I, for instance, do not think that veena audiences are necessarily dwindling. It happens that I discussed this with a performing veena player recently, and neither did they! Whilst some threads generate controversy, others tend to attract those that agree with their proposition.

Probably we can mostly agree on clean toilets and properly operated sound systems, but that message is already out there. I wonder how many sabha committee members didn't read the newspaper article on sound featured in a recent thread.

It seems, from what I hear, that far more people read this forum than are active on it. Perhaps we'd be surprised. Perhaps you underestimate the influence that rasikas.org already has. I am amazed (and a bit horrified!) by the number of people I meet who tell me they read my posts. Well, if they read mine, it means they read everybody else's as well and I am certain that they take in the points of view of our more heavy-weight members -- not as in eating too much, but as in being recognised for their actual knowledge of the music.

Any one of us can point others to see what is written here, whether that person be the editor of The Hindu or the secretary of a sabha.

This forum does a good job of highlighting areas needing improvement. I believe we cannot be an advocacy forum representing various interests. If some one feels compelled to bring it to the notice of the concert organizers what is being discussed here, it is upto that individual, IMHO

Agreed. Any good thing (positive suggestions) for the betterment of the toilets, sound system ;) , starting concerts at the given time, mini speeches, rasikA-friendly ticket booths (the problem arises especially during the season), politeness--all these make the listeners happy.
As Nick said it very well, more people read RasikAs Forum than we think--artistes and organizers are among them. What the members say here (the constructive ideas, of course), serves the puropose of consciousness-raising. A sound suggestion might lead to the organizers improving conditions. Musicians might pick a hint or two from us which they were not aware of in the first place.
Yet, we are neither professional critics nor politicians!

Rasikas can experience some of the best accoustics , In a hall which has eliminated architectural barriers for the differently abled , with ample parking space for cars at
Sri Ganpathy Sachidananda Ashram Hall , near Baby Nagar , Velachery

25th Sept Swarna Rethas at 5pm and Amrutha Venkatesh at 6.30pm
26th Sept G Ravikiran at at 5pm and TMK at 6.30 pm.

I classify the accoustics , one the best , not based on the building and its accoustics but on the person in charge of the Amplifiers. One of the few occasions where I see the Feedback is not staring back from the front , but from the sides - as seen from the singers point of view.
Nick. I cannot think of a better watering hole for you . You will need some effort to locate it first time around . You may find the parking zone a bit dark and spooky . But everything else should be fine.
Some other info they give on their pamphlets :
Cell 9566107117 , 9444465336 , 9841070390
I should be there on those two days . Hope to meet some of you who can make it

Editors often express that the feed back is either not there or negligible from the readers/rasikas of Classical music. Editors would welcome feed back from individuals or a group of rasikas. Constructive and positive feed back is in every body's interest.

'thimma: thanks for that. That means two of my favourite youngsters are competing for audience on 25th evening, but I saw K Jyotsna last week so well may come to see Amrutha again. It will be good also to discover a "watering hole" (an oasis?) nearby. My otherwise nearest, at Thiruvanmiyur, I would say has very poor acoustics/amplification and I don't go there often.

Suggestion: to post this in the concert announcement section.

PS... it is marked on Google Maps :)

Any member of the forum or even a non member rasika can make a print out of the entire thread (not selectively!) and post to the editor or Sri.SVK himself. Let them make out whatever they feel like from it!
