T M Krishna - R K Shriram Kumar - K Arun Prakash

Vedic Sangeeta Foundation
Infosys Hall
22 Sept 2010. 6:30 pm

nAda tanumanisam - cittaranjani - Adi - T (NS)
dEvi brOva - cintAmaNi - Adi - SS
dakshiNAmUrtE - shankarAbaraNam - misra jhampa - MD (R)
sabhApatikku - AbhOgi - rUpakam - GKB
mOkshamu galadA - sAramati - Adi - T (RNS)
tani
bhaja gOvindam - rAgamAlikA - Adi
mAtrariyAda sezhum ponnE - suruTTi - misra cApu
nejukku nIdiyum - sindhu bhairavi - Adi
nI nAma rUpamulaku - saurAshTram - Adi - T

It was a good concert. The orthodox beginning with nAda tanumanisam was very nice. The neraval and svarams in cittaranjani were interesting to listen. The Alapanai of shankarAbaraNam was kept short and the kriti was very effectively rendered. The main sAramati was very elaborate and the kriti was rendered well with neraval at 'praNavanAda' and svarams.

The renditions of all the other kritis was very good and enjoyable. The accompanists were very good and added much to the enjoyment of the concert, by playing very appropriately.

Started with a bang! Great neraval for nadatanumanisham. Became sublime for Devi brova and the following Dakshinamurthe... Became unbearably strident Mokshamu galadha onwards... Ever since that day I have had sleepless nights wondering when they will come up with a Aruna Sairam/TMK jugalbandhi :-)

It sounded quite familiar, so I think the former. Have never heard the other version... Any recordings?

Keerthi must be referring to stlyles of singing 'nAda thanum'. Traditional( kharaharapriya janyam); the second gothram may be the style adopted by Dr MBK.
Keerthi pl correct me.

Nope. BMK's is just a stylised version of the same notation. He doesn't sing it as a Jhankaradhwani janya.

Yess. Smt. vedavalli has a new CD pramANa, which has a rendition of this version.

I suspect that if the kharaharapriya variant were a true one, then the kRti would have been in saindhavi, which even entertains an occasional D1.

Singing this song as a janyam of Kharaharapriya appears to be correct. The song is on Lord Shiva and Sama veda is mentioned in the lyrics. There is a belief that Kharaharapriya evolved from the 4 swarams used in Sama Veda recitation. Now it looks like a Puzzle if Smt RV has sung as a janyam of different Mela.

Keerthi/VK and other rasikas- I'm sure can educate..
