The concert was held in the listening hall of AIR yesterday and was for an hour. The theme was on Goddess Saraswathi as this was apparently for the Navarathri series and would be broadcast on Saraswathi Puja Day.

Puliyur Duraiswami Iyer's Krithi provided a good start and was followed by the GNB Saraswathi Krithi with a fast paced Neraval that was absorbing. The Saramathi Krithi, a leisurely one is always emotive. Been a while since I've heard it. The Kalavathi Krithi was rendered very well. The Krithi is yet another example of Dikshithar's genius. The varieties of Sangathis in the Pallavi, all within that short Adi Talam cycle are beautiful. The main Kalyani piece - an Uthukkadu Venkatakavi composition was neatly done as well and it was followed by a short Tani. Haven't heard the composition before. The accompanists gave good support throughout. The violinist's responses in Saramathi and some Parur style playing in Kalyani was good. The concert concluded with Bharathiar's song in Bhimplas.

The diversity of composers taken up was very nice.
