Srmts Ranjani and Gayathri ,accompanied by Sri, H.S.Bhaskar on violin and Sri Nagai Sriram on Mrudangam. gave a delightful workmanlike no frills concert before a packed auditorium on Oct 2 2010 in Los Angeles.
The song list is as follows:
1. Varnam Kanada
2. Sri Saraswathi Namosthuthe Aarabi
3. Ninnu Cheppa Karanam Mandari
4. Chittam Iranga Sahana
5. Main Raga Karaharapriya Elaborate Alapana by vocalists and violonists .followed by Rama Nee Yeda ,Good Neraval and Swara Prastharam
6. Vara Narada Vijayasri
7. R.T.P. Mohanam was the prime raga for this and the pallavi in Tririputa tala tisra nadai was “Mohana Mutthu Kumarayya,Nannu Brovavayya' followed by Darbar, Varali, Kalavathi and Tilak kamod, the last two ragas giving adequate chance for the violonist to excel in north indian style, thanks to his Guru. The usuaal reverse order rendering was there.
Eppadi Padinaro in Karnataka Devagandhari, a Meera bajan in Brindavani, an Abang in Lalit, Tillana in Paras and finally the Sorastra mangalam concluded an enduring 3+ hr. concert which left many rasikas wishing the artists had offered little more
Now it is time for this layman to sign off leaving the more knowledgable and competent rasikas to post a critical technical review

Wow, Tilak Kamod featured in the rAgamAlika swarams? Must have been great.
RG's Kharaharapriya is always out of this world. LA was truly in for a treat.
Meera Bhajan in BrindAvani? I haven't heard this one.. Are you talking about Barse Badariya in MeghmalhAr?

Isn't Tilak Kamod the same as Nalinakanti. I have never heard any Carnatic artiste exploiting Nalinakanti in Hindustani style (i.e as TilaK Kamod) - would love to hear that - you would not have recorded the concert i hope ??Abhishek wrote:Wow, Tilak Kamod featured in the rAgamAlika swarams? By what ever name you call rose, it smells the same Not being a trained musician I saw brindavani in Megh malhar as pointed out in#2 Incidentaly, that ,took me back nearly 70 years to a film Tansen with Saigal and khurshid. Saigal sang Deepak which caused intense pain due to heat (?) to the emperor to be cooled by the rain which came down after Khurshid sang "Barsore" in Megh Malhar Re Tilak Kamod yes it resembles nalinakanthi but since violonist gave the distinct north indian slant to those two items, I chose to use similar north indian appelations. Whatever the name the concert gave intense satisfaction to me and that is the reward If I have offended the sensiblities of any purists, I crave for their indulgence
