Dear friends,
How about an idea of having a channel dedicated to carnatic music alone? Long time I used to think why nobody has started on this line? Any specific reasons? Just like we have seperate channels for comedy, film music etc..., how abt an idea of having a channel for carnatic music?
cheers

Most outlets ship CDs to any destination when you order online. Usually arrives within 5-10 days. Within India, shipping charges are also low.
For instance: http://giritrading.com/
You can even purchase and download MP3 songs onto your computer, Ipod etc.

Alternately, there are Carnatic Music Programmes on various channels. I think it would be a good idea to capture all of them in one common place for the benefit of all.
The most known is the Southern Regional Satellite Network ( SRSN) program on Saturdays. From 9:00 to 10:00 am on all south Indian Doordardshan Channels for 1 hr.
There is also a national programme of Music in DD National for 30 mins on every saturday 8:30 to 9:00 am

If this happens, sponsored concerts might take a hit. Worse than that--less rasikAs in concerts.
Those sponsors who like to propogate CM could think of adding a few more programs to the already very popular Margazhi MahA Utsavam and other annual events. Surely, a weekend concert hour in the morning (of a live concert) would make rasikAs happy and perhaps interest a few more listeners who are not concert goers.

For the past one week, Sri Venkateswara Bhakthi Channel has been telecasting a live concert for nearly 1 1/2 hours from 19.00 hrs to 20.30 hours titled Naada Neeranjanam. They have already featured Udayalur Kalyanaraman, Kadri Gopalnath, Sukanya Ramgopal and Malladi Brothers/Malladi Suri Babu.

The reason why I opt for this is I too would like to hear some good music but not finding time to go to concerts, as we have to plan for the same. Sometimes for big concerts we have to buy tickets and all.
If CM comes home in the TV , when ever we are pissed off with the regular tv channels , definetly this will help us to keep live.
We can get to hear some good sensible music.
Long time this thought is coming in my mind.
But as you correctly said who can bell the cat?!
regards...

Don't we have to pay if we purchase groceries, or petrol for the car or milk for the baby. Why then should a big name concert be given for free, or for that matter even a lesser known artist. Organizers have expenses to put a concert. And artists need to get compensated as this is their livelihood.

I did not mean making a payment but was trying to mention that we need to buy tickets in advance to view the concerts by sitting in the first row. My concern was the timeline and convenience in which we can do these....thats all and nothing else... (Just like for watching a film instead of going to theartres, we wait until a CD is released and then watch it over home to our convenience).appu wrote:Don't we have to pay if we purchase groceries, or petrol for the car or milk for the baby. AIR Ragam DTH comes as bundled package with Sundirect and perhaps other commercial DTH service also.srkris wrote:DTH is cumbersome, you have to have a set-top box and a dish antenna, and can hear the FM only on TV, which is something I dont like a lot.
It is not required to keep your TV switched on to listen to DTH. The set-top box has a audio out which can be connected to a computer audio system which many of us have or can be bought for Rs 300.
Example of such a computer audio system is

From 6 PM to 9 PM, AIR Ragam DTH priogrammes are contributed by Bangalore.srkris wrote:Probably AIR Trichy has a wider selection to broadcast, or probably they fear interference from the political establishment in Chennai

All of us are aware about the TRP ratings for the success of the programs/channels.
All of us are also aware of the abysmally poor TRP's of Classical Music programs, already being televised by both the DD and private channels. When TRP's of the programs of the very popular musicians in the prime time also do not have better TRP's, having dedicated channel for Classical Performing Arts, will remain, a wishful thinking. To make it happen, all the rasikas should view the programs for sufficiently attractive TRP's recorded/published, with regular consistency. If TRP's are achieved, you will have deluge of programmes/channels, like currently popular'reality'shows, with the promise and scope of the Ad revenues.
