GOOD BYE (to you... and to the Forum)
cmlover,
We need your usual pro-active contribution and your inspiring presence . Please come back Sir and I wish a very happy independence day. I am taking your GOOD BYE comment too seriously because I thought you have infinite resilience to stay.

Nothing short of a tragedy if we loose CML from this forum.

And, frankly, nothing short of silly if it is on the basis of one falling out. I rely on CML realising that he can walk out of any conversation at any time --- but he need not leave the house.

Yes, you don't have to leave the house. Nick has said it very well - about walking out of any conversation ...........

Folks
No need to invite me back to my own home !
My present break was not in any huff or due to exasperation!
I am only taking time off to fulfill personal obligations and commitments (nothing health related)!
Will be participating only sporadically till my mission is accomplished!
Many thanks to all my well-wishers...

I am sorry I have to differ from the above messages. cmlover has left on his own. He is not a politician who resigned, expecting to be recalled by a bevy of his supporters. He was pulled up a couple of times for gratuitous and "vilifying" remarks in this forum. He explained away his "unacceptable" remarks using the banner of humor. But others don't agree. He could have insisted that it is his opinion (to which he is entitled) whether others agree with it or not. Instead he chose to leave the premises. Nobody banished him or is preventing him from coming back----on his own. So let us not make it a political drama. That is my opinion--which is uncontestable.

Rajesh,
I don't see anything out of the way about your starting this thread. After all, it seemed for a while as if some of us didn't notice CML's post--in the same way as when a family member left home saying goodbye, we were preoccupied with some exciting conversation or other of our own.
Not an unusual thread for Rasikas, either. If we scroll back, we would see several threads which were started with the same kind of sentiments!
CML means a lot to you and that's obvious. There are others too who were equally concerned but did not say it on the forum for the reason that their simple sentiments might get lost in a flurry of interpretations or opinions.
Now that CML has posted a response, we can say 'thank you', and move on, I think (not opine!).

Greatest sigh of relief from me. Last night , Did not have single scary moment .

I wont have to explain to everybody at home , why I wanted the lights on throughout the night , anymore. :@

As someone famous said :
Resolve to be tender with the young , compassionate with the aged , sympathetic with the striving , and tolerant with the weak and the wrong .
Sometime in your own life , you will have been all of these .

Nostalgic moments with cmlover.

I was fortunate enough to meet cmlover on 27.06.2007 when the concert of Sri P.B.Srirangachary was arranged at my residence on behalf of the Rasikas.Org forum.

During his visit to India in the year 2007, after visiting his native place, Sri Cmlover stayed in Chennai for a few days. Sri coolji was accompanying him to the places to be visited at Chennai by cmlover and they arrived in time for the concert.

After the thani avarthanam, I had the pleasure of introducing the dignitaries who were present for the concert, namely Sri Cmlover, T.E.S Raghavan from Chicago,
Sri TRS, late Sri Ramaraj and many forum members.

It was a memorable day for the forum members who have attended the concert.

The passion with which Sri Cmlover spoke on the occasion was excellent.

Our forum had Sri coolji who had been uploading many Audio files for the benifit of all the Rasikas.
In addition to uploading the music he points out the duration in the Audio file the artist presents
a wonderful sancharam.

The teaching methods for music through skyp have not begun in full swing then.

Sri cm lover, with his ambition to make the music teaching to reach every corner of the world had delivered an excellent speech.

Fortunately with the efforts of coolji the concert was recorded both in Audio and Video formats and was shared with all the forum members by uploading the concert in Audio and Video formats in Rasikas.Org web site.

We did not know then that the concerts arranged monthly by coolji will one day will become an important archive for the future Rasikas.

I am happy to share the wonderful concert where in the important VIPs have addressed the Rasikas.

The download links for the Audio of the full concert is given below.

Listen to the speeches at item No.13--- IMPORTANT SPEECHES BY THE VIPs.

The Video file containing the speeches of the VIPs is around 950 MB. After converting to D vix format, it is 223 MB which is too large for upload via media fire. I am trying to find a way
to upload the Video in a few days [Any suggestions for uploading 223 MP Video file
or how to split up the 223 MB [VTS format].

Many of the forumites who would not have seen cmlover will feel very happy when they see the Video.

This is my humble way of showing my respects to Sri cmlover.

We must allow him have a break to attend to his personal commitments.

He cannot keep quiet for a long time and we can always expect him to post his views in our site in the near future in his unique way of reply in all the threads of Rasikas.Org.

I do not want to get into specifics. But, I had the opportunity to talk to cml for more than an hour over the phone few years back (while he was in canada - i think he still is there) . I don't know if he remembers. He had a passion for both music and mathematics (I mean pure and abstract mathematics).

It is sad he chose to leave this forum. I have "virtually" known these people for lots of years (cml, mk, lakshman etc). Their experience in life and profound knowledge in various departments is highly commendable (like MK's enthusiasm for Tamil). I don't know if that level of knowledge and enthusiasm always comes with the baggage of ego :) . No offense. In any case, my namaskarams.

honestly, they are great people.

Regards,
CL

Many times, medium is the message (according to Marshall McLuhan).

In case you are wondering what is this "medium is the message", here is the substance of McLuhan's phrase.

>>The medium is the message is a phrase coined by Marshall McLuhan meaning that the form of a medium embeds itself in the message, creating a symbiotic relationship by which the medium influences how the message is perceived. The phrase was introduced in his most widely known book, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, published in 1964.[1] McLuhan proposes that a medium itself, not the content it carries, should be the focus of study. He said that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not only by the content delivered over the medium, but also by the characteristics of the medium itself.<<

Another example of why the messenger is mistaken for the message is the zeal with which the message is delivered. The messenger must declare himself as just the carrier and he should deliver the message in a neutral tone. If an agent of Hitler carried out executions he was doing his duty alright but he should not be perceived by the witnesses that he was more than enthusiastic in doing the executions.

Originally I was nameless. In fact no names existed then!
Then there were countless names which I do not remember.
In this avatar atmAnam mAnuSham manyE (I am considered a human)
The family name is officially what R-T has referred to. But MK is referring to my given name. Due to the confusion of undestanding Surname/given name / etc., they got flipped while migrating to West. My nickname is well known and like Thimma I like to be referred that way!
My parents were cousins. When my father was born my great-grand mother insisted that her son deliver a bride for the newborn grandson. My grand mother would not oblige for a couple of years. Then she made her do prostrations (danDan iTTu pradakShinam) to the Lord (who is the namesake of our MK) seated on the mountain - a distance of 25 miles - a harrowing experience. Promptly following that she delivered in due course the female child. My prapitAmahI was a chief disciple of Nilakanta Sivan and hence the love of CM is in the blood...
Enough for the present to stop speculations :D

Well, if cmlover wishes to remain unnamed, we should respect his choice...By the way, people who wish to remain anonymous on the internet are called Anonymous Cowards...well, not exactly - Anonymous Cowards do not even have screen names (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_Coward) :) So CML is not in that category :) But it is a trifle disappointing not to be able to put names to screen names!
mahakavi wrote:Let me throw a monkey wrench in there. What you see in post #211 in that thread is  NOT his real name.
But since it was the pitamaha himself who referred to CML as "Narayanan", it is in every respect as good as his official name, right?

In my next life I will not use my real name on the internet.

I already don't... but in the small corner of it that I frequent, there always seems to be someone who says, Oh! You're nick-h from rasikas, or indiamike --- so my anonymity is blown.

Never again.

I am with Nick. It is not cowardice but just good sense. The people who hang out at Facebook share so much of their personal information publicly, it is quite shocking to me. Given the search-ability of the web, it is easy to put together a personal profile of some one with a few searches. And you somehow stumble on their resume online, you get their entire history.

ALWAYS EVOLVING

I have retired from service in February 1998. Since I was having a Hugh collection of cassettes assimilated over a period of 5 decades, first thing
that I did was to purchase a desk top computer. Starting with nil knowledge
about the use of computer, I Started learning the basics of the computer works by trail and error method.

Slowly I have learnt to convert my music from my cassettes to digital mode and
burning Audio CDs, then converting to mp3 format [incidentally burning my purse also wasting lot of CDs].

With the help of Coolji and other friends, I have become proficient with the
Computer works. The work load of conversion from cassettes were
very heavy with a back log of 3 to 5 years at anytime for the past 10 years.

Fortunately, with the help of Coolji, I got all the cassettes and spools
converted to digital format free of costs, courtesy Sri Cleveland Sundaram.

This was only the preliminary work. Conversion to mp3 and when the mp3 collections became huge, conversion to DVDs were done.

When I wanted to show the cmlover’s video, I did not know as to how to split the Video files. Here again one of my friend obliged with a software for splitting up the Video file and guided me in completing the Video clip successfully.

I am happy that many of the Rasikas have seen the Video clipping.

I am uploading the other split up clips of the concert after the Thani Avarthanam where in I have started the speech[Don’t blame me for my
poor vocabulary – Part 1 of 5].

2. Sri TRS addresses the Rasikas in part 2 of 5.
3. Sri cmlover addresses the Rasikas. Already uploaded.
4. Sri T.E.S.Raghavan of Chicago addresses the Rasikas.
5. Sri P.B.Ehrirangachari continues with the concert.

You will be seeing Mr. & Mrs. Nick,
Rajeshnat [looking very young] and other Forum members.

The download links of the Video clips are given below.

REMEMBARING LATE SRI RAMARAJ
Late Sri Ramaraj was one of the most respected foramite. His vast and deep knowledge
and his capacity to compose meaningful krithis were a treat to listen to.

He used to be an active member of the forum contributing posts in many threads.

He was instrumental in bringing Sri TRS for this concert.

I would request the Rasikas to identify the other Rasikas in the various Video clips posted in the thread.

A good number of Rasikas used to attend the concerts during 2007 and 2008 when compared to this year. I would request Rasikas to attend the concerts arranged
by the RASAYANA in future in large numbers.

CM Lover?
True to his name, loving his music and catching up with his reading. Doing what we all are supposed to be doing. He gets more time to live with music than I do (spending my tme willy nilly).
He is enjoying his peace and spare time and will come back when he feels up to it, I hope.
Not all the non-smilies can do justice to how many of us forumites feel. We also know, the loss is not his.

PB,
You are voicing what a large number of people feel, but do not say it aloud.

I have a lot of respect for his views and valued his postings. However, cmlover has taken a decision on his own acord to stay away to pursue further on reading, sprituality etc. Lets respect his decision and levave him at peace than making such sentimental statements and make a mockery.
Lets understand no one is a permanent fixture here or anywhere!
Lets respect that and move on.
