Television Broadcasts of Carnatic Music

Hi...something that's always annoyed me and undoubtedly many of you about Indian TV is the lack of Carnatic music programs - both quantity and quality, despite hundreds of channels existing.

Living abroad I don't have access to all the channels that are known for their promotion of Carnatic music like Jaya TV and Podhigai (which is a shame), but I do get most of the other channels through satellite, including most Malayalam channels - Amrita, Kairali, Asianet, etc, Tamil channels Kalaignar, Mega, Shankara and a bunch of others that have popped up recently.

Perhaps we can use this thread to provide a comprehensive guide to Carnatic shows on TV?? Given the rarity of stumbling upon a channel with a Carnatic program being broadcast at any one time (apart from December season of course), it would be useful to have something to refer to to know when and what I should be watching...

Hi Abirami,
Like you I am also from abroad category. What we do in Dammam, KSA (near to Bahrain) is that we have taken the sundirect set box from India after fully installing the same and after getting fully connected and seen that the programms are working we have brought the same here. We called a dish antenna fellow and installed a 2.5 mtr dia dish and beamed to the satellite. I am getting Jaya & podhigai. This will solve your issue to some extent.

I am posting regularly almost all CM broadcast by podhigai
Jaya, Vijay , Kalaignar at You Tube which are viewed by many
who are away from the country and I get feed back also from them.

Living abroad,U may even call India a shame.Podhigai gives a lot of programmes that is society oriented and not just commercial programmes based on only cinema.I am a music lover no doubt but am equally bothered about the society that I am living in.There are good debates on current issues like AIDS,generation gap,etc on Podhigai.Jeya TV also has a programme by name KannAdi compered by Anu hasan on social issues like female infanticide,genetic modification and effect of fretilizers in agricultue,etc.

Those who are living abroad try to connect only by watching programme on arts,I think.Pl.watch other programmes also.Ur notion may change.
