Ambal Neelayadakshi

On the occasion of MahAnavami, Sunaada Radio presents compositions on Ambal Neelayadakshi of Nagapattinam. These songs are composed by Sri V. Ramaswamy. Below is his experience in his own words about the Goddess.

It was in the year 1975 when I was working with The Indian Steel Rolling Mills, Nagapattinam that I enjoyed the full beauty and grace of Ambal Neelayadakshi when the Deity was taken through the four streets around the temple in a well decorated beautiful car accompanied by music and Veda mantras that I got the inspiration to compose lyrics in praise of the Ambal. There are a few songs composed by Shyama Shastri and Muthuswamy Dikshidar but unlike about other Deities, Neelayadakshi Ambal songs did not reach common folk.

Goddess Neelayadakshi graced and blessed me to write at least one song every year. I got them printed and arranged for distribution to devotees during Adi Puram function in the temple through friends, as I moved to Mumbai for my career in 1976. While in Mumbai, our neighbour, my friend-cum-colleague’s mother suggested as though Mother Neelayadakshi’s voice through this lady, to worship Her during Navratri festival keeping the Deity’s picture on a swing (joola) or Oonjal in Tamil. Since that year 1981 , Mother Neelayadakshi has blessed us to keep Her picture in a home-made decorated Joola inviting devotees on Vijayadasami Day to worship and seek Her blessings. On this day we give a printed copy of that year’s song along with Haldi Kumkum and Prasad.

It is nothing but Her Grace that I get the lyrics in praise of the Deity a few months before the Adipuram festival.
Mata also blessed all of us in the family with a sudden thought to also present the songs to the public in the form of a music album. My son Padmanab Sridhar spontaneously decided to fund the project. We approached Chennai Violinist Mullaivasal Chandramouliji, a relative of my nephew’s wife, and he did a wonderful job of giving melodious carnatic tunes and to get the album produced sung by his team singers and accompanying Artists.

It was Her Grace that we could release the CD at the Lotus Feet of the Deity Herself on 15/8/2007 Adipuram Day at the hands Clarionette Vidwan Shri AKC Natarajan who does not fail to be at the temple on Adipuram Day to offer his rendition as his prayer.

We are able to feel and experience Mother Neelayadakshi’s blessings. May be a coincidence, my first devotional song on Amba Mata was written in the year 1979 and Ambal blessed Mr. B. Sriram (State Bank of India Official) and his wife Mrs. Shyamala Sriram in that year with a female child with her birth star Purvaphalgun (Pooram) who was to become later our daughter-in-law Sandya Padmanab Sridhar. Incidentally the songs ordained by Mata to be written by me are all released on Adi Puram Day.

The songs I wrote in manuscript form were sent to my friend Mr. Abdul Latif Jaffar who was at that time working in Nagapattinam. He used to get them printed and arrange for distribution to the public. Even after 15 years of married life, he had no children. But we kept on telling him that Ambal Neelayadakshi would definitely bless them. And so, it happened and they were blessed with a female child and another female child after another 10 years.

While in Mumbai a similar miracle happened. On Vijayadashami day when we worship Mataji in Joola, one among the visitors, one of those years on that day was my colleague a Christian Lady who also did not have any kid after many years of marriage. We conveyed our wishing prayer that Ambal Neelayadakshi would bless her. She did get a female child next year. Similarly, one of my colleages, a Gujarati girl, middle aged was not getting married and she also visited us and prayed as suggested by me. She was blessed with a happy married life within a short time.

In Bangalore where we settled after retirement, one of the devotees had an experience to tell us after having darshan and prayer at our house on Vijayadashami Day. Within a week after that day, her aged mother who was ailing and was in Coma state for about twelve years, much to the distress of every one, could attain Mukti and reach Heaven as per Prayer to the Mataji.

Ambal Neelayadakshi has been blessing us and Her devotees in many ways.
Recently, we visited Nagapattinam on 20th June 2010 and came to know that next day was the Temple’s Consecration (Kumbabishekam). The Holy Mother so gracefully invited us to our surprise to have darshan of that Holy Consecration.

What a Blessing indeed.

Iam surprised why no one could reply for this mail. Iam completely in agreement with Sri. VR about this Goddess. Mahaperiyaval has written pages about Kayaroganeshwar and Neeladayakshi. Anyone who listened to this kritii by SSI and also refer the book to know the meaning would have to appreciate your views. This Kshetram is a must visit to all who have not. I don't see any other song except Neelambari and Devagandharam (Kayarohaneshwar) by Dikshitar, penned by any other saint or person.
