Ranjani & Gayatri in Cary, NC on Oct. 17th

Post by hamirkalyani123 »

With the same combination as in Ottawa, here are the songs they sang.

1. Valachi - Navaragamalika varnam
2. ANupama Gunambudhi - Atana - T
3. Vasantha ragam - PS
4. Kamalamba - Ananda Bhairavi - MD
5. Birana - Kalyani - SS
6. Bhogeendra - Kuntalavari - ST
7. RTP - Bhairavi w/ragamalika (Saama, Varali, Kalavati and Chandrakouns?)
RTP Pallavi goes like this "Kamalasana Sundari Chandravadani Kamalalaya Vinodini"
8. Karunai - Sindhubhairavi
9. Krishna Nee Begane - Yaman
10. Abhang
11. Tillana in Jhinjoti
12. Mangalam

It was a very good concert. It is amazing to see their energy levels even though they had 3 concerts in a row. One on Oct. 15th in Ottawa, 16th at SSVT temple in DC and this one.

Very fortunate to sit next to Smt.. VS who is in town. You will her performances posting shortly in Triangle area this week.

Nice balanced song selections. I would have loved to hear Gayatri's high reach in the Atana and kalyani and sairam's deft rhythms in Vasantha and kunthalavarali and of course the Thillana..

This is a wonderful song but I haven't heard MSS's version.

I learnt to play this song from a vocal rendition of a friend. here's the link of her voice..

I attented this concert, it was very fulfilling. The Yaman Kalyani virutham prior to Krishna Nee Begane was delightful!
Thillana and Abhang were very well received by the audience. Hoped the organizers had not dimmed the audience section lights during the concert though!

Out of curiosity, what happens when organizers dim the light for the audience?

I personally feel that the audience/artist interactions will be more vibrant when the lights are on. Several artists do not prepare a complete song list in advance and make song selections gauging the pulse of the audience.
In Raleigh, few years ago, the same thing happened during Sri.Unnikrishnan's concert, he paused the singing and requested them to turn the lights back on :)

Interesting. I believe, if you go to organized commercial concerts in big auditorium, they do dim the lights of audience to focus the light on artists but I understand your view point
