A lovely composition - just a clarification for non-tamizh speakers - paRRum should be pronounced as paTRum.

Yes Ravi. It's one of my favorites too. I learnt it by listening to my uncle VVS who tuned it.
AK was very happy that I enjoyed singing it. The words 'vINai oliyil can really be sung to mimic the sound of a vINai! And the next line: kaviyil nadiyil kuzhalil amindAi was fun to sing. She would be happy and then would say: ippo gAna mazhai pADu!

Radhika - here you go:
pallavi
nAdarUpiNi nalvaram aruL
vEdan maruvum vilAsini (nAdarUpiNi nalvaram aruL…)

Oh resplendant dEvi (vilAsini), the very personification (rUpiNi) of music (nAda), who is embraced (maruvum) by brahmA (vEdan), please bless me (aruL) with excellent (nal) boons (varam).

anupallavi
SatamenRun pAdAmbujam paTRum enRan
idayam kaLiponga en inniSai pADa (nAdarUpiNi nalvaram aruL…)

(The very personification of music, please bless me,) who has eternally (SatamenRu) held on to (paTrum) your (un) lotus (ambujam)-like feet (pAda) for succor, (with excellent boons) so that this joy/enthusiasm (kaLi) in my (enRan) heart (idayam) can overflow (ponga) and I can continually sing (pADa) my (en) sweet music (inniSai) in your praise.

caraNam
kUvum kuyilil koñjum mazhalaiyil
vISum tenRalil vINai oliyil
kaviyil nadiyil kuzhalil amaindAi
kalaivANiyE en nAvil amarvAi (nAdarUpiNi nalvaram aruL…)

(The very personification of music), you exist (amaindAi) in the cuckoo (kuyilil) that coos (kUvum), in prattle of young children (mazhalaiyil) that caresses (koñjum), in breeze (tenRalil) that wafts (vISum), in the sound (oloyil) emitted by a vINa (vINai), in a poet (kaviyil), in a river (nadiyil), and in a flute (kuzhalil). Oh sarasvati (kalaivANiyE), (please bless me with excellent boons and) take up residence (amarvAi) in my (en) tongue (nAvil)!

Ravi,
Your typical translation, bearing the hallmark of sarasvati kaTAksham as usual ;)
I think that in the konjum mazhalaiyil bit (prattle), you missed typing the words 'of young children'. The lisping words of the young ones...
