Prince Shri Rama Varma is a direct descendant of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. Shri Rama Varma is a highly accomplished vocalist and vainika. His music is greatly influenced by his devotion to Swati Tirunal, admiration to Sri.M.D.Ramanathan and guru bhakti to Dr.M.Balamurali Krishna. He has been performing on stage for two decades, besides accompanying his guru Dr.BMK on numerous occasions. Shri Rama Varma has excelled also as a teacher. He teaches music to groups of children, some of which are telecast on TV channels. During his extensive travels in India and abroad he conducts music workshops to promote carnatic music, specialising on Dr.BMK's compositions. Sri.Varma has now taken over the responsibility of conducting week long music festivals in Thiruvananthapuram, namely Navarathri Festival and Swathi Sangeethotsavam.

Nadasurabhi Annual Music Festival 2010 will be held from the 21st to 26th November 2010. A total of ten concerts will be presented during the period. Complete details along with the appeal for donations have been uploaded in their website

It is this Sunday. Prince Rama Varma does not seem to be performing very frequently in Bangalore. I heard a lecdem last month at a private (by invitation) venue. Quite interesting free wheeling talk about Swati Thirunal, some legends relating to their family in connection with music, his personal association with stalwarts like Semmangudi, Dr,BMK and so on. No accompanyments.

Probably a good chance for Bangalore rasikas to listen to him. It is a free concert as well.

I Attended the ocnerrt. Except for the mic and the organisers ( who kept on chatting and walking in the aisle during the concert) everything was perfect.

Song selection , the accompaniments.. was a full 3 hr treat.

I think the orgsnisers should be a bit more sensitive to serious rasikas and should not disturb.

BTW: The hall needs an acoustics makeover !!!

Enjoyed the Panthuvarali- Navarathri song of ST. Excellent rendition by the Prince.

Very good concert indeed. Typical BMK signature could be seen almost throughout the concert. Interestingly there was no BMK composition presented, except for the thillana, that too due to listener's request. Soft voice, importance on sahitya are the characteristics. Pantuvarali kriti itself was a masterpiece of Swati and it was well presented.

Special mention is to be made about the excellent accompaniments- HKV, Shivu, Guruprasanna and Bhagyalakshmi.

The hall probably is too small for the number of people who attended. Luckily there was place outside the hall from where the stage was still visible, and it was used to accommodate the spill over crowd. We could see more and more chairs were to be moved into the hall as more people kept coming.
