MyCarnatic is proud to be sponsoring this event by Carnatica!

We will be recording many of the concerts and posting them in high resolution, video format at www.mycarnatic.org/concerts/

If you are in Chennai, do come to the event. It is a new, A/C hall that is well equipped with a great audio system as well as state of the art video and audio equipment.

Cheers,
Raghu

Don't mean to rain on this parade, but with all the other events going on in December, I fear that the audience for these great artistes may be somewhat thin. Why not schedule such events for April/May when there are fewer events competing for attention?

Just my 2 paise...

Some kinds of pens sell because they're expensive! Imagine gifting a colleague a Cello Gripper for their birthday! Similarly, many concerts in Chennai get audiences BECAUSE they're held along with a thousand other concerts in December. People in Chennai suddenly become concert-active -- AND a lot of people come from other cities -- and countries -- to attend concerts held in this month. :D

Good points! May be we need a summer festival for the connoisseur organized by the smaller sabhas in concert. And the out-of-towners now have a choice of festival to attend - the crudely commercial or the tasteful traditional! :-)

Till 2003 the festival generally starts only from Margazhi Dec 15th,2010. I was thinking from 2004 onwards that concerts used to start from Dec 10th etc, it gave me an oppurtunity to hear more artists. Now kutcheri is even starting end of November . It is November-December festival. In short atleast to me ,I can have considerable spread because of much earlier start, than clubbing too many during dec 15th to 30th,2010. But all this puts a bit of strain on the artists.

I am with you that on May and June period few sabhas can create few festivals("April may illa pasuamaiyE illai kAnju Pochu Da").

Carnatica team
You had your kutcheri season in MGR Janaki college a year before , last year it was in tattvalOka. I am assuming you still have those scheduled . Also the venue is a new place , next to Bombay Halwa house. :)

Also Dance seems to be ruling the roost after Jan 1st. A couple of important venues promote Dance much more than music during the season.

re Arkay Convention Centre ----

Wow... Chennai's new luxury concert venue! It is more like a conference suite in a five-star hotel. It is comfortable and amazing.

Everything is brand new and just finished, and that, for a few days, is going to be its problem. There is an overpowering smell of new polish/melamine/materials.

If the owners/concert organisers manage to see this in time, please not that some open windows and extractor fans are urgently needed, just for a day or two, otherwise, vocalists in particular are going to have a very hard time.

I'd also suggest to the owners a shoes-off policy: this place is carpeted!

Teething troubles aside, it is wonderful that the owners are making this place available for music: they must be music lovers themselves! :)

Oh Lord... no!

A mountain of stinky shoes/slippers/sandals outside damages the feng shui irreparably.
I would rather that they invest in a vacuum cleaner.

I wasn't aware of that!

Regrettably, December has begun, for me, with laryngitis, and my plans to attend these concerts must be shelved, at least for a day or two.
