Help with translating diikshitar's "shakti sahita gaNapatim"

Post by hridayam-kamalam »

Hi Everyone!

I'm going to teach "shakti sahita gaNapatim" to my two students and was wondering if some kind soul out there would be able to help me with a translation. I tried doing most of it myself, but would benefit from double-checking from someone who has a book - or more knowledge than I am! Many thanks for reading :)

Here are the lyrics, and then below, my translation attempt:

shakti sahita gaNapatim
shankarādi sevitam
virakta sakala munivara sura rāja vinuta guruguham
bhaktāLi poShakam bhavasutam vināyakam
bhukti mukti pradam bhuuShitāngam
rakta pādāmbujam bhāvayāmi

energy and power go with gaNapati!
aadi shankaraa serves you – as do
all those who are dispossessed, the best of the sages, kings;
guruguha delights in you!
you nourish your devotees; honoured son, vinaayaka
you bestow wishes and salvation
i bow to your bejewelled body and red lotus feet

I read an article by Dr.V.V.Srivatsa in which he says :"It is a myth that Dikshitar sang in praise of all sixteen - forms of Ganapati - Shodasa Ganapati found in Tiruvarur. However, we must cite the nottuswara - passage, Sakti Sahita Ganapatim, in praise of one of these 16 forms."
I think shakti sahita gaNapatim only refers to shaktigaNapati. The article can be read from
