Post by sankark »

Here is the song list

Charulatha R - Violin
J Vaidyanathan - Mridangam

Mahaganapatim Vande - Thodi - MD - Rupakam
Parthasarathi Nannu - Madyamavathi - Poochi - M Chapu (NS @ sarva dharma paripalaka)
Gnanasabayil - Saranga - GKB - Adi (RS @ gnanasabayil)
O jagadamba - Anandabhairavi - SS - Adi
Dhanyudevvaro - Malayamarutam - PSI - Adi (RN @ vara maddala)
Thulasamma - Devagandhari - T - Adi
Cakkani - Karaharapriya - T - Adi (RNS @ kantikii. Sedate and a different neraval and a lower speed for couple of avartanas was just spectacular)
Thevaram (Pal ninaindhu ootum) - Ragamalika - Appar (Believe it had Mohanam, Thodi & Kapinarayani in it).
Perugalam Thavam
Thunga Theera Virajam
Thiruppugazh (Niramaya)

Started the season with a fantastic VS concert.

Any corrections in details welcome.

You're either referring to mAhAgaNapatE pAlayAshu mAm in natanArAyaNi or mahAgaNapatim vandE in tODi.

Rangaramanuja Iyengar's Kriti Mani Malai vol 4 lists Dhanyudevvado as being composed by Venkatasubbayar.

Thanks jigyaasa & narayan. Fixed it. PS -> I meant PSI.

There was Thillai Thalam Endru Solla Thodanginal (Sama) by GKB as well after the Thevara viruttham.

If one wants to simply enjoy carnatic music without being terrorized by it and come back home with complete peace of mind and a feeling of simple bhakthi and contentment- Vijay Siva's concert should be the first choice.

Amen to that Harishankar. Now, I am not sure if I can make it to his concert on 14/12 @ BGS.

I was fortunate to attend this wonderful concert. It was an extremely fulfilling experience. The Kharaharapriya was outstanding and moving.

A minor correction "paal ninandu" is from Tiruvaacakam of Maanikkavaacakar. It was followed by GKB's "Tillai sthalam enru solla toDanginaal" in Saama.

I would put OST above VS in this quality of music. Both great artists.

I thought that she takes the MS route which is not the soulful OST/VS or Maharajapuram Santhanam style.

Possible. Although the book lists it both in the text and in the index as being of Venkatasubbayar. Don't know about this composer, but I guess he could also be entitled to use the venkatesa name in his songs!
