A superb concert. Her maturity belies her age.

It will be difficult for her contemporaries to even think of singing a vivadhi as sub main.

Hats off to her !

Both Rasikapriya & Begada were amazing and the viruththam.

I thought the second rAga was chenjuruti, but I may have been mistaken.

rasikapriyA was a bold choice and well delivered.

It was interesting to find the vocalist and violinist emphasize different niShAdas in bEgaDa in their respective AlApanAs.

There were a couple of vocal phrases in bEGaDa that began with RShabha: I felt these could have been rephrased to begin with S or G.

Splendid concert, overall.

I had the added bonus of running into a couple of forumites.

Interesting! I was also taken a little by surprise because I was expecting the usual suspects in madhyama sruthi. Senjurutti trips me up quite often :-)

Good that the Bangalore girl is making waves @ Chennai MA. It is not a surprise for me. I knew that it would happen, the first time I heard her (when she was 17-18). She sang Subhapantuvarali on that occasion- one of the best- only probably second to TNS's SP.

250 is a big number. Was it in the main or small hall? If small, can it even hold that number. Appears to be a generous estimate. The days of her singing in the main hall with packed audience is not far away, provided she knows to mix, her own heavy slow style with a bit of manoranjaham, that the ordinary rasika would look for in a concert. Wish her all the best.

Heard her first at the hall opposite the Krishna Rao park in Basavangudi in early 2005 and was only mildly impressed. Now I can't but be in awe of the Late. Sri SVK's (Founder of Raga Sudha and many good musicians) instinct for spotting potential for great music.

I have to thank the Musiri household for introducing me to Amrutha, and she sang, there, one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Now my bout of December ill health (and the rasikas meet) is keeping me from her season programs --- but there will always be next year.

When I talked to Jaya about Amrutha, she replied, "she was my father's favourite."

I asked Amrutha after the concert (re:thillana composer) and she mentioned that it was Shri T V Gopalakrishnan's composition (the thillaana)

Interestingly Sangeethapriya also lists it as kambodhi.

I assumed it was Dr.BMK 'coz someone said that there were 2 BMK compositions listed in the program guide. But you are right She sang the Dr.BMK composition in a subsequent concert and it was a different one.

I listened to the recording. I sensed chenchurutti initially. I think the phrases that followed that initial section may have given you the impression of kambodhi.
