Vidya Subramanian in Kapali Fine Arts, Chennai on 18th Dec

Post by Shyamala Rangarajan »

Smt Vidya Subramanian displayed her vidvat in full measure, in her vocal concert in Kapali Fine Arts (Gokhale Sastri Hall, Mylapore) on the 18th Dec 2010 (Saturday). Endowed with excellent voice, Vidya kept the audience enthralled with her sound padanthram.

Vidya started the concert with Dikshidar's Amrutavarshini piece 'Anantamurta..'. 'Nenaranchura' (Simhavahini - Thyagarajar) and 'Enneramum" (Devaganthari - Gopala Krishna Bharathi) were the subsequent renderings. Then followed the raga alapana in Charukesi and the well known kruthi 'Krupaya palaya'. Lalgudi school's special stamp was there for us all to see in the treatment of Charukesi by Vidya.

After a brief 'Teliyaleru (Dhenuka - Thyagaraja), Vidya took up Poorvikalyai for Ragam Tanam and Pallavi. The elaborate raga alapana brought out all the beauties of Porvikalyani. In the pallavi rendering (in Khanda Thriputa - Tisra gati) - 'Thamadam thagadhiya Thanigai murugaiya..' Vidya displayed her excellent laya gnanam and manodharmam.

Then followed Pasuram (Thiruppanazhwar) and Thillana (Kaanada).

The support on the Violin by Arunachal Kartik and on the Mrudangam by Ramkumar contributed to a wholesome concert.

The effect of the extensive training from Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman was quite apparent in Vidyas concert. We are bound to see Vidya emerging as a top ranking vocalist in the near future.

Vidya had done a great job promoting CM awareness at NA through her Lecdems and podcasts. Her return to the concert circles at Chennai with renewed vigour is most welcome.
Best wishes from the myriads of her Fans in NA.

I would have expected a Thiruppavai which is her Forte and she is a splendid teacher through her Thiruppavai lessons...
