Based on what I saw on JAYA TV telecast today.

What an inspiring (???) concert by Unnikrishnan. I am sure he would have inspired many wannabe carnatic singers that "mere mumbling" can make you a carnatic singer. May be Unni thought this to be one of Super-Singer or some other stupid singer programs being dished out in every single channel.

ABSOLUTELY NO AZZHUTHAM in whatever he sang (ooopppssss !) - whatever he mumbled !!! His mouth barely opened and he was supposedly singing !!! AMAZING !!!!

It would be a win-win situation if he sticks to film music !!! That way he need not exert himself !

BTW he started "Chandrasekara" (Sindhu Bhairavi) and went to "Venkatachala Nilayam" (Sindhu Bhairavi)...????

I am totally disappointed about what I saw today.

I can totally relate to what you're saying. I have the same problem with Unni's singing usually. But I wouldn't diss him fully, because he does have his moments. All the live concert recordings that I have of his are actually excellent. His diction, while not as crisp as, say, Malladi brothers, isn't dismal either.

But something was definitely wrong with his singing in the Jaya TV telecast today. I couldn't make out a single word of what he was singing. Must have been a bad day.

And, regarding the Sindhu Bhairavi switching of songs, he did it because the theme was 'Hariyum Haranum'. The first piece is on Shiva and the second on Vishnu. It must have been an attempt to bring out that aspect of the concert.

One of my all time favorite live concert is his. I heard him this year at Kartik and was appalled by his utter disregard for enunciation of lyrics. Thoroughly disappointed.

I wish he takes the suggestions offered in this forum to make an attempt to enunciate the lyrics clearly. All the good music he produces does not reach the audience unless the lyrics are clear.

Unni is not singing with his mouth open! Possibly years of playback singing and voice modulation had made him more conscious of how he sounds. . He has to be a carnatic performer?
