Mela Raga Malika by Varijashree
Recently I heard a CD 'Mela Raga Malika" released by young Varijashree of Bangalore. She has good control over her music and voice. She has also played flute in the interludes. Commendable effort. I dont know if anyone so young ( she is still in college) has taken up this mammoth task. I cant but help our memories racing back to MS's melaraga malika.

Smt. Vedavalli is the undisputed specialist in Maha Vaidyanatha Sivan's Mela raga malika. She recently trained a set of students in Bangalore. The students also presented the first 36 ragas in a programme specially organised for this purpose.
Varijashree is highly talented. An unassuming casual girl. I heard her give a 1.5 hr vocal concert sometime back at Nadasurabhi's special festival to encourage young artists. She just came in a simple salwaar kameez probably from school/college. Good performance and very impressive behaviour with no tension. She accompanies her father on flute too. We wish her all the best.
