skris, that is really nice of you.
I noticed, over somebody's shoulder, that there was a global rasikas meet article in Samudhra. I will make the effort to buy the magazine, but I wonder if Dr Radha Bhaskar might be willing to copy the article here?

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2010 FUNCTION UPLOADS.
Dear Nick,
Mrs. Radha Bhaskar had sent a copy of the latest “Samudhra†magazine to me.
A very good report about our meet and a few photos were published in the magazine.
A good friend of mine working in the Hindu news paper had promised to publish a news report in the paper as a “curtain raiser†heading and was to be published in the paper on 18.12.2010 [Friday music supplement].
Cm lover was kind enough to give a brief about our web site from the origin, subjects covered, etc. However no report came in the news paper. When I contacted them, they have promised to send a reporter to cover our event. The reporter also didn’t turn up on 19.12.2010.
Under the circumstances, Mrs. Radha Bhaskar had published the report about our meet in their magazine.
Mrs.Radha Bhaskar was taking an active part in our efforts for the successful conduct of our meet right from the beginning by arranging the hall in the school premises, preparing the banner of our web site [request by the u/s] and decorations done around our banner.
My whole heated thanks to Madam for the same.
Since MRS. Radha Bhaskar is busy in conducting the music festival in their organization, I was not able to speak to her today.
I wanted to request her to publish the report about our meet in our web site
[I don’t know as to how to copy the report about our meet from the copy of the magazine available with me and post it in the thread].
Also the photos of our meet are available in the CD. I don’t know as to how to post the photos Via Picasso web. I have made a request to Sri Rajesh who promised to help me in 2 or 3 days.
Video coverage of our entire event is also available with me.
Since Sri AM Sharmaji is staying with me I am not able to do much of my work in computer as of now.
I wish that I will be able to post the photos, Video etc one by one starting from First of January 2011 as a New Year gift to the Rasikas all over the world.

The writeup in samudhra is in their Dec 2010 magazine(priced 10 Rs each). The cover page of the magazine is that of harikatha exponent "kamala murthy". The writeup is two pages , you will see individual photos of many like a cut out of a political party
with the article right in between . Tx to mudra and radha bhaskar.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2010 FUNCTION UPLOADS.
Many many thanks for posting the Samudra article. It is nice to see srinidhi in concert as well as the faces of many members of our Rasika Family. Can't put names to all of them; hope Rajesh will assist!
The write-up is brief but objective.
Credit goes to you Nageswaran for giving birth to this concept of global meet and the safe delivery. Now it is up to all of us to nurture this child and let it grow into maturity.
By the by I loved Srinidhi's powerful rendering of Janasammodini - a favourite of Santanam (now of Unnikrishan too) - not often heard in concerts. Her childlike voice literally soars very melodiously and I am afraid she may be grabbed by any of the movie directors once they get to hear this

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2010 FUNCTION UPLOADS.
Thanks Sri. Nageswaran. It is great to see the coverage in the Samudra magazine. Regarding the expenses, I meant to talk to you about this during the meet but in all that flurry of activity it got overlooked. We will communicate by email and coordinate with srkris on bridging any remaining balance.
It was a great meet and it was so wonderful to see so many of you in person. And it was great to listen to Srinidhi and her masterful handling of matters related to laya. Full credit to the student and her guru Sri. Akellaji. She has a bright future ahead. Sri. VKV was at his humorous best in handling the duties of the MC quite cheerfully.
Thanks very much to everyone for their contributions, monetary and other wise. It was indeed a lot of effort, physical, mental and monetary, to pull such a meet together...and many rasikas traveled long distances for this purpose. When everyone talked, many positives about our forum were expressed ( "addictive" was frequently heard, and the sheer and natural enthusiasm about the forum when Manjunath spoke was very memorable ). And many constructive criticisms and suggestions were made, all with the best intentions for keeping the forum a vibrant social network for us to hang out and have fun, enjoy talking about music and contributing and learning a lot in the process.
I felt the strong vibe that the members are passionate about doing good things for CM. That is in the form of a growing and lasting contribution to the art. We, as a group, are in a unique position to articulate that and most importantly, doing something concrete about it. It may be just a handful of things, like 3 to 5 items of significance. This leads to another theme that was mentioned in the meet, especially by Thimma and by a few others, about the vision statement for the forum. May be the vision statement itself is a generalized statement of these significant things members want to do for CM. I know that is not how visions statements work, but in social networks like ours, it is the users who dictate the form and content, and so the flow is opposite to what happens traditionally. Again, this is just my personal take on it, not any concrete declaration..
One feedback from the meet attendees for all of us, which was emphasized by cienu, is along the lines of the carpenters' maxim "measure twice, cut once". That is, think before you write, review before you hit that submit, review again and edit if needed. Sri. Pratyaksham Bala also narrated in a side conversation about how much he thinks about implications of his writing on the quite varied backgrounds, linguistic, cultural, generational etc., of our members, especially on opinionated observations.
On the other side of the coin, as you will see and hear in the video, he made the profound observation that one way to not take offense and respond harshly at someone's writing is to consider how you will perceive and take it if similar things are uttered by one's grandson. Both of these thumb rules contribute to self-moderation. This does not mean our discussions need to be docile, non-opinionated, overly and artificially respectful and lack vibrancy.
Another common feedback was that the forum needs tighter moderation. People are quite astonished at the level of acrimony and unsavory exchanges in many threads in a forum dedicated to the noble art form that CM is. (Fortunately, that is only in a very small minority of threads). Quite a few members are not comfortable with the current "long leash" method and they would like to see a bit more authoritarianism/back-bone/putting-the-foot-down on the part of these darn "officials". As I have stated before, I am personally not in favor of content moderation. As Nick mentioned elsewhere, the current "long leash" method is by intent and not due to inability, though we do recognize content moderation requires more moderator bandwidth. We will continue to evolve this as srkris has sought your suggestions by email. To those who want tighter moderation, think hard about what you are asking since you may get it
One thing we definitely need to do a better job is in keeping the threads organized. Shivadasan was quite particular on that and I agree. This basically involves splitting threads when the discussion veers off in tangents. Members choose to read threads by the title of the thread, and Shivadasan felt that due to our natural inclination to go on a tangent on to other topics, he misses out on some great content since they are buried in threads with a different title. I would not necessarily discourage discussions going off to related topics since that is how communication/discussion happens in real life but we will try to do a better job in splitting threads if the off topic discussions merit a separate thread.
Sri. Nageswaran was too kind in honoring me with that great shawl ("ponnAdai") and I accepted it on behalf of all of you. That combined "you" is indeed the only "official" of this forum. The forum is not a creation of the admin/moderators but it is an evolving organism constantly being built and grown by the members. That is what the modern user-provided content forums are about. In that spirit, I offer that ponnAdai to all of you, metaphorically wrapping the shawl around the entire rasikas.org community. Thank You.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2010 FUNCTION UPLOADS.
cienu, ah.. nice picture.. I will upload the group photo that was taken with my phone camera soon.
The picture insertion in the Samudra article is done tastefully and in a non-obtrusive manner.
A few people got missed out from the Samudra picture layout... Rajesh, Nageswaran, Thimma for example!! But I am glad they did not put the names under the photos, this way it just comes off as a random sample of rasikas in attendance.
BTW, In my first press coverage, I am misquoted
No complaints though.. I was not expressing a strong desire for the site to be artist friendly but I offered that topic for discussion. But as we saw, there were other pressing topics in people's minds which occupied the rest of the 3 hours.
The topic itself turns out to be not just artist friendliness but it is the more general issue of friendliness. Given the no holes barred discussions here, the general respect that is shown to artists and other people in real life ( sometimes artificial and sycophantic ) is not reflected online. That itself may be very uncomfortable to the artists. And if the artist is a member, some reviewers may have a tendency to hold back their opinions on that artist's concerts. So it cuts both ways. There is definitely a cost. Some artists will definitely add value to the site and we lose out on that. But given that the site is predominantly rasikas oriented, we do not want to change that bias but we need to somehow instruct the artists who sign up to have a thick skin and resist the tendency to debate in the concert review threads in a knee-jerk manner and know how to take an opinion as an opinion and not as a universal statement of fact. I know it is much easier said than done. This is sort of what transpired in the hall way discussion I had with Dr. Narmada when I invited her to be more active at the site. She expressed the apprehension about the confrontational nature of some of our threads but she said she will contribute wherever appropriate. Dr. Narmada was very nice about that. This interaction is what prompted me to mention it as a possible topic. Anyway, we can hold that discussion here in a separate thread.
But during the course of the meet, it was clear that this friendliness issue is not just about artist friendliness. There are several top researchers/minds among our membership who have original content to offer but are reluctant to write about that here at our site. The content is quite varied from musical and instrumental techniques to personal anecdotes gathered by disciples from their famous gurus on certain aspects of concert performance to research efforts on the effect of music on the brain. The reluctance comes from fear of damage to their reputation. Validly so. Many of them publish in peer reviewed journals in their fields and if they encounter some unsavory reactions, why would they bother to put up with that? Some may engage in a debate on a few occasions but many will simply walk away since it is just not worth it. That is our real loss.
These are some of the issues that came up which I thought I will highlight here. We will pick this up for discussion in separate threads over time. May be one solution is to have a sanitized sub-forum for scholarly discussions where the moderators take a decidedly active role if the debate goes out of hand ( which happens only rarely but that possibility is what makes people uncomfortable ). This is indeed a form of content moderation with fully disclosed authoritarianism which is one sided and with no pretensions about fairness etc. That type of moderation can be restricted to just one or two sub-forums. Just a thought!! More later.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2010 FUNCTION UPLOADS.
VK
Mine was just a joke of seeing 11 photos and equating to a team. Possibly you may have taken bit differently than my intent . Yes i agree there is a lot to communicate in future , it is bit difficult to impossible to collectively work together , but a majority of us can work in reducing the perhaps perceived or real( dont know for sure which side it is ) unfriendliness.
Sorry all for the little detour, this post is more to clarify the nonstop near round the clock mods like VK who do the constant and near impossible gatekeeping . As vk said, we will have seperate threads to talk, discuss and debate each of that.

There is no need for content moderation, there is need for behaviour moderation. A simple set of rules, eg no personal slurs or attacks, which are strictly implemented forum-wide. That is what almost every forum does. Nobody can please all of the people all of the time, of course, but...May be one solution is to have a sanitized sub-forum for scholarly discussions where the moderators take a decidedly active role if the debate goes out of hand ( which happens only rarely but that possibility is what makes people uncomfortable ). Dear Rasikas,
The Video coverage of the entire proceedings of our meet is available in 4 DVDS and separate handy cam coverage of the audience is also available with me.
The format of the video is “TS†with the video content of 16 sets of nearly 1 GB each.
With the limitation of free upload being 200 MB, I have to split them into near about 170 to 190 MB for easy upload.
I am not having any software to split the Video contents to 200 MBS.
I would be happy if any of the Chennai based Rasika is able to help me in spliting the video content so that I can upload the Videos with their available software.
Chennai based Rasikas who can help me may send an E-Mail to me through our web site.

The VIDEO starts with an auspicious Nattaikurunji varnam played in flute.

Excellent Videography! hats off to them!
Particularly enjoying the spontaneous humour of VKV who pays attention to everybody and keeps them on an edge- a true Democrat! I guess that is what he is
(sorry Republicans
Nice to see our Govindan honoured and his proverbial modesty like his hero!
We are blessed to have role models like him in our membership!

CMLOVER:
You are correct! At the risk of being audited by IRS, I have to confess that I pull the Democrat lever in the voting booth to save time& energy tho' lately it has become a case of: "Raman andal yenna Ravanan andal yenna".......VKV
