Ms.Savita Narasimhan @ MA,17/12/10

Post by ganeshkant »

Accompaniments:

Dr.JyothsanA Srikanth - Violin
Nellai Sri.Balaji - Mridangam
Sri Panindra Bhaskara - Ghatam

Song list:

NAdhasudhArasa - Arabhi - S
Jeya jeya - Poorvikalyani
Chittam irangAdhadhenayyA - SahAnA - (R)
Sri KAnchinAyike - AsAvEri
KaligiyundE - KeeravAni - (R,N@bAhuha,S,T)
RTP - DhanyAsi - Kanda Triputa
(ThyagArajayoga Vaibhavam - pallavi)
Virutham (Behag)
IdhuthAno thillai sthalam - Behag

That was an awesome concert from start to finish.SN is a beautiful amalgamation of S.Sowmya & Bom.Jeyashree.Her renditions were full of both melody & stuff. The extended applause by the audience after the Dhanyasi AlApanA stood testimony to this.

All the three AlApanais - SahAnA,KeeravAni and Dhanyasi were outstanding. The energy level was at its best and there was not a dull moment.

Dr.JyothsanA ( is she an MBBS ? ) gave very good support and her Dhanyasi reply showed her ingenuity. The percussion duo esp.BAlAji gave commendable support in lifting the concert.

My admiration for SN has truly metamorphosed to respect at the end of the concert.AhA...what a performance ! :P :P

Truly a perfectionist who delivers each sangathi with so much precision. Needs to work on her repertoire though. The last one was sung carefully as "Idhu thaano thillai thalam".

Thanks so much for the review and concert details. Dr. Shrikanth's bowing of the violin, as seen from many of her YouTube videos, is charmingly aggressive. I am sure the concert would have been quite an awesome affair, as ganeshkant reviewed.

Everything Savita does is subdued and quite an understatement, including her stage presence. Yet, the sheer classicism in presentation and style are astounding about her Music. Quite some imbibing that she has done from her Guru Ravikiran sir.

Can't wait to learn padams and jaavalis from her. I heard that several upcoming artistes are learning padams and jaavalis from her, including Ramakrishnan Murthy. Quite some repertoire she got. Yes, a true perfectionist.

I heard her 1 hour concert @ Chettinad for Jaya TV. I am looking forward to hearing her full concert somewhere. I don't know if there is another thread for it but she sang a beautiful Saveri alapana and Sankarabaranam for Thukiya Thiruvadi. Very pleasant voice

Wonderful performance by Savita.
Smarasundaranguni was presented beautifully. I was hoping she would take a more rare padam/javali, but the rendition was so flawless that I could hear it over and over again.

The Hindu reviewer calls the song "Sura Sundara muni". Can this get any more ridiculous?

I enjoyed this concert very much. I went in cold without knowing any thing about Ms.Savita Narasimhan, only thing I had was her name was in a list of suggestions for that time slot for that day provided by Arasi, my concert planner. Wow, I was so glad I made the decision to hang around MA to catch her.

She got that 2 hour afternoon slot ( 1:45 to 3:45 P.M. ) which is quite limited for her vidwat but she put that to use every effectively. I will be surprised if she does not ascend the ranks soon.

Her sahAnA alapana was top class, her presentation was much more relatable to me than the sahAnAs of other artists who are known for this raga. kIravANi main and dhanyasi RTP were excellent. Viruththam followed by IdhuthAno thillai thalam was very moving. In fact, a couple of people around me were wiping off their tears at the end of the song. Now I know what that elusive word 'bhAvam' means.

It was a very delightful experience being present during the concert. Her handling of ragas were very apt and touch of a top class musician in the making.
For me it is a discovery of the season.
