Concert was too serene.
Deva deva kalayambika -- mayamalavagowla
BagAyanaiyya -- chandrajyoti
Sankari NIyE -- Begada (nice alaapana -- some what different focused a lot on the GMPDPS, NGR, MMGRS on the
return was treated subtly (I liked this)).
GatinIvani kOri -- thodi -- this was good but was very slow
Ananda Nataprakasham -- KedAram
MAyan anbar NEyanai kA^Na lOlanai mananmagizha u^L^Lam magizha engum nerai -- Kaanada -- RTP (ragamalika swarams -- the changes were so fast -- got lost on me -- Hamsanandi, Nalinakanti, ...)
MaarO kahe -- Narayanatirthar -- ?
Thillana -- ? this was really nice.
The RTP was a disappointment in comparison with her last year MA concert, which was
"Annalum NOkinAl" (I think it was Kapi, Mohankalyani (whatever I remember))
Enbar Kannan was really good. I really like his violin a lot. I am hearing Patri for the first time -- he is indeed very
lively (do not know much about mridangam) -- but he and Anirudh supported pretty well.

Hema thanks for posting this.
Some corrections.
1- should be deva deva kalayami tE
3- should be sankari nivE
4- should be gati nivani nE kOri (it is a lalgudi pancharatnam and a trademark speciality of her school).

I thought it was a wonderful concert...lot of Vishranthi, relaxed pace, elegance...I really cherished this concert after attending an opposite, but yet excellent concert from Sanjay, briga laden (the GNB way), yesterday at Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha.
The Ragamalika swarams in RTP were Hamsanandi, Nalinakanti, Bageshri and Madhukouns. The Narayan Teertha Tarangam sounded like Charukesi and the Tillana was Mohanakalyani

Hema thanks for the review. Bombay Smt. Jayshree's music has acquired a degree of introspection that is lovely to hear - serene, without being boring or monotonous.
Should be '....gAna lOlanai...', perhaps?hema wrote:MAyan anbar NEyanai kA^Na lOlanai mananmagizha u^L^Lam magizha engum nerai -- Kaanada -- RTP
Since the 'aNNal' in question is rAma, shouldn't this be 'aNNalum nOkkinAn'?hema wrote: The RTP was a disappointment in comparison with her last year MA concert, which was "Annalum NOkinAl" (I think it was Kapi, Mohankalyani (whatever I remember)

Must have been - Alokaye sri Balakrishnam - BJ sings it in charukeshi.iprakash wrote: The Narayan Teertha Tarangam sounded like Charukesi and
She is one of the best but sometimes her voice is not audible. But none to beat here in the ways she mixes melody and sowkhyam !

Yes sowkhyam is how I would define the concert. Last year's RTP was 'Annalum Nokkinaan, avalum nokkinaal'. I remember this years RTP as 'Maayanai, Anbar Neyanai, Gaana lolanai, Manam Magizha, Ullam Kulira, Endrum Ninai'. I am not sure why she sang 'Ananda Natana Prakasham'-maybe she felt the need to include a Dikshitar kriti. Since that is what cut her time for RTP right down to about 20 mins (as opposed to 60 min+ which I have been hearing lately)
I think I wrote elsewhere as well, Embar Kannan does play his best when he accompanies her. The current musical faculty was well-represented in the audience. And Patri & Anirudh did a splendid job in the thani-I think I saw her tell them the thalam of the RTP in the last minute. Kudos all round!

She was definitely NOT boring. But I did feel that she sounded tired.rshankar wrote:Hema thanks for the review. Bombay Smt. Jayshree's music has acquired a degree of introspection that is lovely to hear - serene, without being boring or monotonous.

Concert was too serene - does this mean not boring but voice sounded tired?

There is enjoyment in serenity too. But it is not a CELEBRATION.VK RAMAN wrote:Concert was too serene - does this mean not boring but voice sounded tired?
I would have liked a somewhat fast piece in between.

Ravi,
The pallavi line perhaps is: mAyanai, anbar nEyanai, gAna lOlanai manamagizha/uLLam magiza--engum niRai (mAyanai)?
Very nice to hear more and more in tamizh and in other languages flowing pallavi lines than just nAMAvalis.
