Symbol used for denoting rest note

In carnatic music s,,, means sa four beat. If any one know the rest note symbol in carnatic music pls update me.
In western music karvai notation and rest notation have different symbols.

This is one of those important things also left to the artist.

I find taking long kArvais on an oscillated note to silence more dignified, where as on plain notes it's OK to sustain it.
