Vid. Gayatri has evolved into one of the most sensitive vaiNIkas who can caress/coax (she doesn't play that instrument) her vINa to do anything she wants...I absolutely love her playing...

rshankar: did you attend the concert ? If so, can you confirm the shruthi bhedham ? Indeed she is awesome - Her concert in blr last year was fantastic too - she plays with so much ease it is just mindblowing. The veena was a bit too loud in the academy, don't know if it is the contact mike or the acoustics levels.

I did not - I try to catch a live concert when I am in Madras - I became hooked after a concert organized by Bhairavi in Pondicherry I attended way back when...

To my knowledge it was madhyamavati.. But a terrific concert.. Somehow felt she is one musician who just forgets the audience and converses with the lord himself while playing the divine instrument. In fact couldn't sleep the whole night.. The concert is still resonating in my ears.gardabha_gana wrote:rshankar: did you attend the concert ? If so, can you confirm the shruthi bhedham ? It was the best concert for me this season along with Vedavally mami's MA concert

A blessed soul . Recently she mentioned in her blog that she got a call early in the morning from the Bhattachariar of Srirangam temple mentioning that he is right in front of the main deity and just finishing pooja and rang the bell too !Somehow felt she is one musician who just forgets the audience and converses with the lord himself while playing the divine instrument

The sad thing was there was a fraction of the people around compared to the previous one in the double header (R&G). As noted in another thread - something needs to be done (if it can be done) re: audience and instrumentalists.

Yes, I am so glad that she was reviewed in this forum. It was fantastic. Has she trained anybody? In fact, many of us were wondering why she was not given the "Sangita Kalanidhi" this year. She may be young but she has been playing for the last 42 years.
But I wish she will use some electronics -- a contact mike + amplifier (like Jayanthi Kumaresh did) -- I feel they could
have a violin as accompaniment as they did for Ravikiran.

The only issue I had was the veena was loud! Do you think it was not heard clearly - I do think that she used a contact mike - Did she not ?hema wrote:But I wish she will use some electronics -- a contact mike + amplifier (like Jayanthi Kumaresh did) -- I feel they could

Well, I did not find it loud. Yes, indeed she had a contact mike. What one needs is a mike which has a "flat response
in the passband," (a good filter). It picks up the secondary vibrations very well (on other strings),
glides, gamakams with few "meettus."

Hmmm.. very interesting - I would love to hear a concert with that. Probably you should relay the info to her - I think she has her email on her site. This info will be very useful.hema wrote:Well, I did not find it loud. Yes, indeed she had a contact mike. What one needs is a mike which has a "flat response

The Thanam also featured a lovely Kosalam after Valaji.
