The concert was packed with pace and energy. Anna poorne was appreciated well with a lot of `bale's and `sabash's. It was surprising that manavyala and manasa sancharare were sung one after the other because I feel that when handled by lesser musicians sama and nalinakanthi tend to creep in to each other, especially during the brief alapanai. But then the brothers handled them both with skill.Rama priya was quite nicely sung. Raghava chary did an elaborate alapana with a lot of involvement. The way he finished it wasgood. It was the first time I heard this krithi (MD's Sri Raja Rajeswari) and was recalling their popular Korina varamosagu. Niraval was sung at Varaahi, vaishnavi, mathangi.
The short madyamavathi- Alagalalla found an unusual place right in the middle of the concert. Mohanam alapana was shared by both brothers . They sang alternatingly and it was very enjoyable. Raghavachary did a good job around the upper gandharam. They were probably disproving the point that one dominates the other. To hear their complimentary voices and styles was quite enjoyable. The chittaswara passages of the composition was good. Some people from the audience requested marugelara. Both kshetragna padams were wonderful..Aligithe was excellently sung by Sesha chary.
The shortcoming of the concert was the sound system. the audio was so loud , at times it was sounding like a wedding cutcheri with random noises all over.Thank god, we had K.V.Prasad who was gentle on the mridangam and not one of our king -style-mridangam-bangers.
R.K. Sriram kumar played Ramapriya very well with all the classical phrases.Nalinakanthi had some shining moments. K.V.Prasad played a mature and sedate thani. The kanjira player ( My profound apologies for not remembering his name and there are no excuses for my obnoxious attitude. I will try and get back later). initially appeared a bit dull and lacklustre but really warmed up and played with a lot of enthusiasm thanks to the constant encouragement given to him by sesha chary.

Nice to hear this. I would still like to hear Raghavachary sing a suddha madhyama raga! Although I'm pretty sure the way they sing is just a personal choice between them of how to divide up things in their concerts.hari_kamboji wrote:Mohanam alapana was shared by both brothers . This song is by Ponnayya of the tanjore Quartette, and has the rAga mudrA 'ramAmanOharI' embedded in the pallavi.
It is a practise in the Dr. PAni (Andhra) school to sing the mELakarta-s like ramAmanOharI and sImantinI as their krama-sampUrNa counterparts (rAmapriyA and simhEndramadhyama).
While aligitE is a KshEtrayya padam, MuTTavaddurA is a jAvaLi, by chinnayya, brother of the aforementioned ponnayya.

Couldn't resist this one. You must mean 'complementary' above, but reading the line further above, may be you do mean 'complimentary'?! Anyhow, thanks for the review of my old favourites.hari_kamboji wrote: Anna poorne was appreciated well with a lot of `bale's and `sabash's.
