Bharath Sundar @ Vani Mahal 2.15pm 31st Dec 2010

Post by hema »

Here is another boy who will scale heights. He sang a very good mukhari and Charukesi. Even his "Baagaayanayya (chandrajyoti)" was rendered beautifully. He sprutams (spelling?) so easily.

What I really like about him -- sings so effortlessly and makes it look so easy.

The pattiyal:
Varnam -- Sree -- Adi
Siddhivinayakam -- Mohanakalyani (very pretty swarams)
Kshinamai tiruga -- Mukhari
Baagaayanayya -- chandrajyoti
Sarasammadanna -- Kapinaarayani (I heard a rendering this raagam by him (along with Vidya) at BSU 2010).
Krupayya Paalaya -- Charukesi
Paasuram -- raagamalika

Thank you for the review.

Not even a mention of the accompanists is real sad!

Cheers

I actually do not remember (violin -- an NRI -- learnt from Delhi Sunderrajan) -- he was quite okay.
The mridangam, I do not remember -- did not get me very excited -- unlike the little fellow "bharadwaj"
who played at MA for Bharathsundar.

About my spellings -- sorry, should follow either English or CPA (CPA permits both aa and A for long vowels).
In ITRANS all consonants are followed by a vowel (irrespective of whether it has a halant or not).

About the pasuram: I do not remember -- it was a ragamaalika -- bharathi had written it down -- she shd be able to update.

Anyway thanks all of you. This forum has been a great learning experience for me. The semester begins
tomorrow and I will have to get back to teaching after a delightful and refreshing music season.

Hema, all the best in preparing these students to further take over the IT world!!

Mahavishnu,
>(although I am on sabbatical till Sept)
I always like a good 'scam' :) Nice!! Sabbatical in India? Very nice. There are two other members who pulled such a thing in non-academic setting and are my heroes and now I add you to that ;)

VK, I wish it were a scam, but the "holiday" part of the sabbatical is over. I was in IISc and the National Brain Imaging center in Delhi for short stints. Now I am back in Canada to catch up with my grad students and make sure my lab is still standing. Sadly I am here for most of the winter, except for a short stint in the west coast :-(

My next sabbatical will be entirely devoted to kutcheris.

mahavishnu: Understood. Best wishes.. I am also just recovering from the 30 degree difference in temperature and jet lag. No complaints though given what the east coast had gone through in the past week...but bracing for a harsh winter!!
