as and aside, it was very interesting to see that both Rajiv Menon and his mother (Smt. Kalyani Menon) will get the awards at the same time. I wonder if this the first time for this occurrence!

rshankar, whille reading about Kalyani Menon, I remember an incident.In July 2009, I attended a marriage in Chennai .She was there too ,as a friend of the bride's family. And she sang 'mAdhava mAmava dEva' in nIlAmbari and it was so beautiful!

We rasikas and the world of music have suffered by his decision to focus on vocal music and almost never play mridangam. He played recently for VVS this season..but otherwise his performances are few and far between.

Sorry. I understand what you mean and I agree with you. Sri.TVG's distinctive greatness lies in his mridangam playing. Have you seen him playing with one hand and putting thaalam with the other. A delight to watch. Kalaimamani which is the juniormost among the senior awards, must have come to him decades back or it could just have been passed by. Anyhow better late than never. Our greetings and pranaams to the great artist.
