The live concerts telecast by SVBC is excellent. No commercials/ interruptions, blissful music for 75 to 90 minutes. It is a great service.
Two days back we heard Hariprasad Chaurasia play Dharmavathi (?) for an hour. That was followed by a crisp Kalyani. The concert duration was almost 100 minutes.

Dr. Rama sang sEshAchala nAyakam with a brief raga alapana followed by swaras in gOvindam uraga shayanam.
The main, post dEvagAndhAri was prakkala nilapaDi in kharaharapriya with R N and S done at manasUna talachi.. she finished the song, then gave tani at the eDuppu again.
The post main was a thyAgarAja kriti in navarOj (on Krishna) and a bhadrAchala rAmadAsa song in nAdanAmakriyA.

Just a point - the last sangati in 'tAraka nAma...' in kshIrasAgara was very very sAma ish in approach.. I may be wrong - but it sounded quite 'different'. Any others who felt the same.

Sometime back I thought it was a man, reading the name as Raama! Then I learnt the truth after reading reviews in Rasikas. Next, by surname Pantula, I thought it must be an elderly lady. I was pleasantly surprised on seeing her yesterday as a young lady. Also a dignified stage presence- no facial/ bodily convulsions! One more good artist from Andhra. They mentioned about her gurus. Could not follow - names not known to me.

1. Jagadanandakaaraka- Nattai
2. Seshachalanayakam- Varali- Ragam, swaram
3. Ksheerasagara sayana- Devagandhari
4. Pakkalanilapadi- Karaharapriya- N and S @ Manasoona Talacheemai
5. Navaneetha Chora Devaki Vasudeva Nandana Yasoda Nandana Hey Baktha Chandana- Ragam?
6. Dharisanamaayanu- Nadanamakriya- Badrachala Ramadas ??- Set to music by MSN Murthy

Very satisfactory concert within the time allotted. Feel like looking forward to a full 3 hour concert.

The krithi - "Navaneetha chora" in raga Navaroj - is it a Tyagaraja krithi (as they announced and also bears the saint's mudra) ?
I was listening to this for the first time yesterday. It has a lilting tune (folkish) and if it is a T's krithi must be a Divyanama or Utsava sampradaya krithi IMO.

thanks kssr for the full list.

>> They mentioned about her gurus. Could not follow - names not known to me.

Her guru is Ivaturi Vijayeswara Rao, a violin vidwan. Smt. Manda Sudharani also is a disciple of him.

Kssr, I am quite new to Bangalore, and have attended only about six or seven concerts here so far, but I feel it would be nice if Bangalore-based artists (there are many excellent ones: Bangalore Shankar, A Shankar Raman, Usha Ramamurthy, Jayanthi Kumaresh -- I've also heard very well of Bhagyalakshmi Chandrasekharan and Neela Ramgopal) perform more often in Bangalore. Indeed, except Sri A Shankar Raman whom I heard in a small chamber concert at one "Karnataka Ganakala Parishat" in BTM Layout), the others I've heard in Madras only.

You have given a list of very good Bangalore based musicians. (I haven't heard (of) Sri.Shankar Raman. )They are performing regularly in Bangalore. I think all major sabhas in Bangalore would have hosted the musicians mentioned on multiple occasions. After all B'lore hosts a max of 7-10 concerts a month, unlike Chennai. So they do not get the number of concerts they deserve.

You can also probably bookmark the blog below which lists most of the up coming concerts in Bangalore.

Thank you kssr. I've seen this (gardabha_gana has shown this earlier), but I took another detailed glance this time ... I liked the organisation of ram's blog more ramsabode.wordpress.com but I'll try to get more comfortable with this one. Ram's abode has a purely chronological arrangement, where as this one uses a combination of sabha-based and chronological arrangement.

KSSR, Pantula Rama is easily accessible via Facebook. You can try that path. If I find any of these details, I will send it to you.

I did google earlier before my posting on rasikas and found her facebook but I am not adequately net savvy to proceed further and get any further information from it! The only info I got was that MSN Murthy is her husband!!

OH. Thanks. You can send to kssr2222 at gmail dot com. Previous version of rasikas had an envelope sign against each poster and clicking it will enable you send a message to that person.

I attended Dr. Rama's two concerts in West Mambalam area in Chennai during this past music season. What a refreshing change it was from the usual commercialized madras music fare. In my view she is one of the very few artists that gives a pure chaste carnatic music for you to experience.

On the lighter side, I only hope that she continues to stay/live in Vizag and commute to Chennai for concerts and not relocate completely to Chennai joining in its junk music stream/fraternity.
