Abhishek Raghuram @ Hamsadhwani 17/2/2011

Another great concert. The accompanist -- in particular Subbulakshmi was fantastic -- to keep up with Abhishek
is something -- in many places (neraval/swarams) -- she was even better than him. She predicted him
very well and in places, Abhishek also allowed her to complete his swara prasthara.
Accompanists: Akkarai Subbulakshmi (violin), K V Gopakrishnan (Kanjira) and Anantha R Krishnan (Mrudangam)
As always both Anantha and Gopakrishnan were brilliant.
When the accompanists keep up with the artist -- it is a collaborative concert with the main artist ONLY deciding the list.
This is precisely what I felt.
The list:
1. Kaanada Varnam
2. Intavanusu -- gundakriya (this what Tyagaraja's book says).
3. Vande Vaasudevam -- Sri -- raagam and swaram were excellent -- Subbulakshmi was really fantastic -- what excellent support
4. Raghuvara -- Pantuvaraali -- it was a great delivery -- no raagam, only neraval and swaram -- I think this is a good idea -- since
he gets often carried away by raagam and does not explore neraval/swaram.
5. Arabi maanam vaithal yennai -- Raagamaaligai
6. Dharmavati -- Paalinchu bangaaru Kaamaakshi (Shanmukhapriya, atAna -- swarams)
7. Rama naamamE tudi -- Desh
8. Parulanna maata -- hindola Kaapi (?)
9. Patiki Mangala haarati -- Suruti

It was really fantastic.

Shanmukhapriya, atAna -- swarams
-- sorry, it was not Shanmukhapriya -- it was Varaali.

thanks for posting the list and review, Hema.
Sounds like a brilliant concert. Abhishek with Akkarai Subhalakshmi is a very good combination. She is exceptionally talented.

Parulanna Mata is just Kapi.

Yes it was an excellent concert by Abhishek. This particular combination of Abhishek,Akkarai and Ananth is really wonderful.
The tani by Ananth and Gpoalakrishnan was very good.
Though he sang raga alapana for only Dharmavathi the niraval in sri and pantuvarali made up for it.Sri ragam alapana was not elaborate.
i have never heard such a dharmavathi ,it was so different. The sangathis he brought in Desh were superb.when he started the concert he was coughing and with such a throat he gave a very nice performance.
Akkarai was really a good choice.she could answer him back in everything.
The second item was Intanuchu in gundakriya not intavanuchu.
