Earthquake disaster in NZ - Call for help
Mahavishnu sir, thank you for the kind enquiry. It is a real shame that such a beautiful city should be shaken and damaged so badly by the fury of the nature. Since Sep 2010, this poor place has been rocked by earth quakes and after shocks and this comes as a culmination of so much accumulated anger! So much of death and destruction!. Because this country is located on a fault, we have been prepared for a number of years for such a disaster, but, unbeknown to us, even after all these years, we are all awestruck with the magnitude of this disaster. While all of us are donating towards the cause, I would request ALL OF YOU to do what you can and send me your donations so that I can direct it to the relief fund. But most importantly, all of you can pray for the affected and the depared souls. That is the least we can do to them. We in NZCMS are planning for a programme to raise funds for this cause. I will keep you guys posted.
By the way, estimated costs of damages in Sep 2010 - $5 Billion
Estimated losses now - $16 Billion
Even a so called first world country of this size can not with stand this kind of loss in a already depressed economic situation.
For those who would like to contribute, please contact me at [email protected].
Kind regards

Very sad situation! was trying to get in touch with some of my relatives who are there.
It is hearbreaking ,seeing some of the scenes on TV. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of NZ.

Words fail. In fact, even thoughts fail.
I read in our newspaper this morning of two doctors who amputated a man's legs to get him free of the wreckage --- and they did it with pocket knives and a hacksaw. All the time, the building was shaking around them. They said they were terrified, but denied that they were heroes. If that isn't heroism, I don't know what is.

Sam, as you say, even a "first world country" is not immune to the human suffering caused by Nature's wrath.
