Nerkunam Sankar on the kanjira.
It was very good concert by the brothers. The ata thAla varNam was sung beutifully with the swara-sAhityam combination. I have heard only Chembai sing the varNam this way. The mike setting was OK that day compared to the RKS oncert, where it was jarringly loud.
Sankaran Sir played a lovely thani as usual, with the classic trademark Pazhani skool kOrvais. Though Nerkunam Sankar was a bit reticent initially, he managed to do well in the misra koraippu section. However i feel, that he lacks the weight of Sundarkumar or Amrit or Guruprasanna.....
The pallavi was in "KhanDa jAthi triputa thAlam- 2 Kalai" and the eduppu was 1/4 edam from samam. The sAhityam was
"pAlinchavE kAtyAyani paramEshwari ; kAmAkshi ninnu"........... The structure goes like this,
pA, lin, cha vE,
kA, tyA, ya ni,
para mE, shwa

Re: Malladi Brothers - Mudhra - 26th Dec 2010
i had attended this concert. just wonderful
Cheraravathemira was soulful.
Sankaran sir played a heavenly avarthanam as a sequel to a magnificent tulasibilwa.
Malladi Bros score heavily in their rendition of keertanam.
Though in my opinion they could have dropped a couple of pieces prior to main so that they will provide themselves with more time to elaborate the pallavi. Just got a feeling that they hurried thru the RTP in this concert.
The same thing happened in their kalarasana Concert in dec season 2009.
May be a coincidence i remember they sang a Charukesi RTP there also ( though a diff pallavi)!!!
