This was one more bonanza, listening to the brothers singing within a span of 3 days, another concert of compositions by a single composer- Dikshithar. This concert was organised by the Bharatiya sangeetha vaibhavam as part of Dikshithar Akandam.
Song list:
Pancha mathanga mukha Ganapathi - Malahari-Rupakam
Kodanda Ramam- Kokilaravam-Adi
Nee saati daivamendulekani - Sriranjani -Rupakam
Sri Raja Rajeswari Tripurasundari-Purnachandrika-Adi
Mamava meenakshi - Varali - Misra chapu- niraval at Shyame Shankari, Kalpana swarams
Akshaya linga vibho - Shankarabharanam - Niraval at Badari Vanamula, Kalpana swarams
Sri Kamalambike sive pahimam- Sree- Eka
Mangalam, jaya mangalam sathguruguha Janani- Suratti-Adi
This was the concluding concert of the Dikshithar akandam and was short, lasted less than an hour and a half.
What stood out was the excellent alapana of varali ( Sri Sesha Chary) with its delicate nuances (which was brief but he brought out the ravishing beauty of Varali) and the fulfilling Shankarabharanam. It is a long time since I heard Akshaya linga vibho and was quite reminded of Ramnad Krishnan. Sri Raghava chary sang most of the alapana. It was a double delight listening to 2 niravals in a short concert. Shankarabharanam progressed in perfect pace in to niraval at Badari vanamula and in to kalpanaswarams. I particularly liked the way Sri Sesha Chary was dwelling on the kalpana swaras around the pdnsp, sp, rsp, grsp, rsp, sp prayogas. unhurried and full of sowkhyam. In fact the entire concert had left this feeling and mood and there was no fast paced singing at all.
This is the first time I heard Kokilaravam ( A janyam of Kokila priya) which was interesting. Nee saati deivamendulekani in sriranjani was simply beautiful. I thought how beautifully Dikshithar has woven the sahityam around the Telugu vowels, which sounds so good.
After `Nee saati’ Sri Sesha chary spoke briefly and informed the audience that Dikshithar had composed very few kritis in Telugu and this was one of them. He added that the speciality about this composition is that it is not exactly a kriti but a`Dharu’ composition, which is mostly used in dance forms. That in the olden days this form was used in `Veedhi Bhagavatham’ in Srikakulam, Vizag and Kakinada regions. He said that we are very fortunate to have such a wonderful composition of Dikshithar in such ``Sundara Telugu’’.
