Having followed all the noise coming from Atlanta and elsewhere, I wanted to get all the brilliant rasikas in this forum together and generate some ideas on how to make sure that these CM organizations are running healthy operations where they are responding to the needs of [paid] members; are equitable to all populations of membership and music community in general; and are not only including general membership on decision making, but also coercing them to the participate in every aspect of the organization’s operations.
Many of the CM organizations worldwide are registered public entities of some sort and carry legal responsibilities of running their operations in accordance with the applicable local law. Outside of these set rules and regulations, organizations are generally free to run their operations anyway their leaders deem appropriate. The onus then falls on the members to make sure that their interests are served and their voice is heard.
Please post your thoughts on how to make sure that proper checks and balances are in place so that a few core group members will not be able to seize power and run the organizations in accord with their whims and fancies, and worst yet, to appease their personal motives and promoting themselves.
Where appropriate, you may wish you provide specific examples of organizations and individuals (with due respect for these hard working individuals though) that we all can learn from each other.

Start your own sabha. Do what it takes to run a sabha. Then feature your kids.gandharva wrote:

Don't begrudge those who have put in years of effort in building up an organization. If they feature their kids or appease their personal motives and promote themselves, they have earned the right to do so.
As it is, we have only snake-charmers, cowherds and other animal fetishists occupying center-stage in Chennai and other locations. Popular choice would mean we would get more of that rather than good Carnatic music. We won't get gandharva gana but gardhaba gana.
