RamA PadAmboruham Lyrics pl

Post by Sundar Krishnan »

I would like to have the Lyrics, Taalam and Composer of this song.

MS Sheela has sung it in Kuntala Varali Ragam.
Pl let me know the alternate ragams if any, in which this song is also popularly sung in.

As I could listen to the song, the words I gathered are somewhat like this :

RamA PadAmboruham, (Shri) RamA PadAmboruham
Bhaja Bhaja Manasa NamAmi?
ApadAmivaraNa jaNam Amaresha ...

Thanks in advance.

...

PS : I have already searched this site, (but in vain) with the foll strings :
“Ramaa Padaamboruham”, “padaamboruham kuntala varali”, “Rama Padamboruham”, “papanasam kuntala varali” etc.

Thanks Shri Lakshman for the lyrics.

You have given the P as :
"mA padAmbOruham bhaja bhaja mAnasAna varadam shrI ra-"

Probably, the ending "ra-" combines with the beginning "mA" to yield "ramA" ??

I tried to listen again keenly to Sheela's rendition, and definitely, she starts with "ramA padAmbOruham", and later midway through the sangatis of the P, she sings : "(Shri) ramA padAmbOruham".

Is there any other link of this SAME song - sung by any other artist - which I can download and listen to ?

*********************

I am aware that PS has composed mainly in Tamil. But, by the words of this song, could it possibly be in Sanskrit ?

Rgds

Thanks for the corrections Rajani.

Sundar Rajan: Please check the website for Papanasham Shivan's songs (2nd thread in this Sahityas section) where you can get songs in tamil and in roman script.
At this blog site it is listed as I have posted.

s-p : here is my attempt :

mAnasa - O mind,
bhaja bhaja anavaratam - worship/seek incessantly
mA padAmbOruham - the lotus feet of mA(Goddess Lakshmi)
shrI ramA - (who is also) ramA, the one who delights

ApadAm nivAraNa caNam - (Those feet that are) adept at prevention of calamities
amarEsha sanakAdi pUjitam - and are worshipped by Indra, the king of Devas and the rishis beginning with Sanaka

hastAbharaNam - (Those feet that ) adorn the hands of (*)
mahA payOnidhE - the god of the milk-ocean,
vakAasthalA-bharaNam - that adorn the chest
mahA viSNOr - of Maha Vishnu,
mahA mOha vaitaraNi taraNam - that help cross the worldly delusion that is like the river from hell , Vaitarani
mahA janana maraNa bhavOddhAraNam - that uplift one from the great cycle of births and deaths

* Samudraraja, the ocean-god is the father of Lakshmi. So this would probably mean when he seats her on his lap, his hands would hold her feet to support her.

Very lovely, I edited my post on seeing your translation. P. Sivan had a beautiful style in composing.

On Vaitrani, my curiosity led me to Wiki, ..."Vaitarna or Vaitarani (Vaitaraṇî) river, as mentioned in the Garuda Purana and various other Hindu religious texts, lies between the earth and the infernal world, the realm of Yama, Hindu god of death, or the Yamaloka and is believed to purify ones sins. Further while the righteous see it filled with nectar like water, the sinful see it filled with blood. [1][2]. The sinful souls are supposed to cross this river after death...."
