Enna_Solven, I am a little confused with yr post #5 dt 12/3, subsequent to Shri Lakshman’s post #4.

So, it seems that there are 2 songs with the first 3 words being similar ? (the 4th word being potri in one case, and sharaNam in the other case) ?

To start with, in the site http://www.projectmadurai.org/pm_etexts ... i0245.html that you mentioned, I can see the string : “karpaga vinayakA kadavule potri” (“கற்பக விநாயகக் கடவுளே, போற்றி!”) under the 1st Agaval, but I could not find the string : “karpaga vinayakA kadavule sharaNam” (“கற்பக விநாயகக் கடவுளே, சரணம்”) in this webpage.

So, finally, has Rajkumar Bharati sung the “karpaga vinayakA kadavule potri” song in NattaKuranji Ragam, (if not, in which other Ragam(s)) ?
I am not so sure if it is NattaKuranji.

b) [this is part of the 1st Agaval (அகவல்) (ie, Part of (No 4 / 40 in the site) – (upto the marked ‘5 lines’ point) – Tamil script copied from Proj Madurai site above and pasted] : 1:34 to 3:35 m :

I could count 10 sets of [4 Attributes (நான்மணிமாலை), each having {veNpa (வெண்பா), kalittuRai (கலித்துறை), viruttam (விருத்தம்) and agaval (அகவல்)}].

I would also like to know the meanings of veNpa, kalittuRai and agaval.

In Kutcheris, the Viruttam (or Pre-amble Shlokam) often precedes the main song.

Here, (part of) the 1st Agaval (b) above, is followed by (part of) the 1st Viruttam (c).
Then, the (complete) 1st kalittuRai (f) above, is followed by the (complete) 3rd Viruttam (g).

Thanks to this song, I have now got a chance to learn about these terms.

ok, looks like there are three renditions by RKB:
1. karpaga vinAyaka kadavulE sharanam in nATTakurinji as mentioned by Lji. I don't have this song or lyric.
2. ganapathi thALAi in nATTai which is agaval part of the first set of veNpA-kalittuRai-viruttam-agaval. This is what I have.
3. The same first set, but leaving out most of the agaval - in nATTakurinji. This is what you have.

So, no confusion.

You need to look up Tamil grammar books for the poem classifications. Here is a sample.
