Chennai has so many 'paadal petra sthalams', and a lot of hymns and compsitions have been sung here. Am sure this programme and concert is going to be very very interesting. Looking forward to it.

*Yet another initiative on the part of this versatile artist who doesn't sing to the gallery.Congrats.
*Presentation by Sriram, carnatic historian is yet another good choice.
*Shall we start listing on possible hymns &Compositions &then wait to see what is in store for us from V.S.?
*Nice team of accompaniments.
* BTW, 6 is a no. for "kanda" the favourite deity of Kotiswara Iyer -specialised by her guru Sri.S.Rajam.

One would hope that kOvUr, tiruvoRRiyUr, etc., are considered part of Chennai: an ee vasudha at one down and a sundari nee or daarini telusukonTi as pre-main would make for a terrific concert. My guess is that the main will be on a certain kapali in kambhoji/ mohanam :-) Parthasarathy has to be content with a lesser slot! The one piece that refers to chennai as chennai (are there any others?) will have to figure - 'orumaiyuDan' the aruTpA with emphasis on the line 'dharumamigu chennaiyil kandakOTTattil'....may be a 'karpagame' in madhyamavati bringing up the rear.

Very sad I will be missing this concert - moving out of Chennai due to career compulsions :-(

* I recollect SKN KVN has made a presentation covering kriti on "Abhiramapuram" -guess the composer as Swarna Venkatesa Dikshidhar?
*Triplicane has its due share-Sri Parthasarathy-Suddha Dhanyasi- Attributed to MD,Tiruvettiswaram** (Our forumites Veenajj had once arranged for a prilgrimage trip to this temple*** rendering kritis of MD including one on this shrine in "Gamagakriya") of MD, Parthasarathy nannu -Madhyamavathy by Poochi Srinivas Iyengar SKA.S.Rajam has once told me the composer has been living there in Triplicane &got his ailment cured ("sarva roga nivarana ..") on rendering this no.
*Of course on Tiruvanmiyur by Thooran "Thaye Tripura Sundari"-S. Saveri.
* "Entharo Mahanubhavu" pancharatnam was said to have been composed in Anderson st when T was staying in Chennai(Courtesy Sri H.V. Srivatsa).Good compliments for chennai residents of that time-could have meant Chennai?!May be Sriram could bring more historic support to this view.

"Chennayil Chennai"
List of songs covered
*Varnam-Suddha Todi-Patnam-where mention of chennai is there.
*Dharini telusukonti-Suddha Saveri-T-These two I missed .
Please permit me to digress. How about other kritis on this Raga.I rechecked Panchapakesa Iyer Varnam book to confirm in Todi varnam the chitta swarams following Danimatalu.. are "Pa" varja.
*As for Dharini telusukonti I have never heard anyone singing all the charanams or atleast 1&3 viz., Amba trijagadheeswari&Rajitha manigana except( as I know)- During veedi procession on the eve of Anjaneya uthsawam being conducted by Vidwat samajam-Ch-4 every year as a concluding part of the Thaigaraja Aradhana-first charanam is rendered by one group (me included) followed by 3rd charanam by another. I feel for the Kshetra prog 1st charanam would have been more appropriate as we have the kshetra mudra in "Bimba Athipura".This is my suggestion.
*Vinda maamalar-Thevaram-Thirunavukarasar-followed by Poorvikalyani alapana.
*'Marundheeswarane"Misra Chapu-periasamy Thooran.-Thiruvanmiyur.
*kalpaka matha- Hindolam-Adi- Papanasam Sivan.-Mylapore.
*Adinamma-Paras-Pallavi Doraisamy Iyer-On Lord Nataraja in Choolai(behind central station old moore market Nehru stadium.)
*Peyazhwar pasuram followed by Ninnu sevinchina-Misra chapu-Subbaraya Shastry- yadukula Kamboji.-Triplicane.
*Ganamudam-Salagam-Adi- Kotiswara Iyer. The quick swara exchanges between her &Akkarai were a real treat.I wondered how it fitted with Chennai. She clarifies 'it is on Singaravel sannadhi in Kapali temple the "Kanda ganamrudam'" is said to have been dedicated as samarpanam for this deity".I am also told that there is one 'Appane kapali' by koti in Todi not taken up by her to aviod repetition of Raga.
*Sundareshwaruni-Sankarabharanam-Kovur Pancharatnam of Thiagaraja afte elaborate Raga alapana. Akkarai did her best in treatment of Sankarabharanam. The classic neraval in "Rajarajuniki"( I will try to cut &paste the meaning.)
*Neyveli Skanda Subramaniam&Dr.Karthik were at their usual course with good anticipation& inTani.Frequent exchange of signals from the person in the front row to Karthick &also conversing with the another were distractions to be avioded.
*VS could not have selected a better place other than "Tiruvallidhayam"(a temple opposite Lucas-TVs-Padi -can be approached from Tirumangalam also.)This is a Guru Parihara Sthalam enshrined in Agasthiyar Nadi script as evidenced from various poetry being read through" Yedus"by nadi Astrologers .I leave it to the historians to substantiate. She has chosen the Tiripugazh on a Guruvaram day -Marumalli-set in Vijayanagari raga ,chanda Thala ( I could not follow the beat of this tala).
*Yadumagi ninrai Kali-Nadanamakriya- Subramanya Bharathi.who had offered worship here dedicating this song in Sri Kalikamba temple,Sowcarpet.
*Orumayin?-Ramalinga Adikalar-on Kanda Kottam with an emotive rendering in Raga malika-Shunmugapriya,Mohanam, Behag&Surati.
*She signed off with Nottu swaram-Sankarabharanam-MD.This was borne out of the interest MD evidenced in English band music during his stay in "Manali".
*I thought this Kshetra project could pose the greatest challenge to the artist as we have not heard much on this that too not in one sitting. But from the way she was turning the pages of a fairy thick bundle of A 4 papers presumably containing the details of songs she might have prepared for the occasion, one would really guess she has a lot more in store on this Kshetra (had to skip for want of time I think) --like the one of Veena Krishnamachariar on Kaladipet temple.
* I earnestly solicit the listeners' perception to a concert to change in order to appreciate the painstaking efforts put in by the artist in collating the data -she had taken us around the whole gamut of the chennai to present the theme with equitable distribution of Deities( Including one of the Navagrahas(Guru)) Vaggeyakaras, languages,Ragas &Talas & fit in the kutchery format to elevate the standards to the benefit of listeners (not deterred by the dwindling audience ).
*I request someone to summarise the presentation by Sriram for the benefit of everyone.
*I was too curious to know the way the kritis/ Hymns are selected &rendered to have lost track of RNS wherever they were handled except those observed above.

The swarams in Thooran's 'Murundeeswarane..' were rendered at the Anu-charanam beginning with the words 'Karumbena Mozhi Sollum Tripurasundari thaai . . . ' . Kalpaka Matha, a song not often heard, was preceded by a beautiful and detailed Hindolam alapana and kalpana swarams were rendered at the Pallavi phrase.

The peyazhwar pasuram rendered in Yadhukulakamboji starts with the words 'Vandhu Udhaitha Ven Thiraigal Sem Pavala Ven Mutham Andhi Vilakkum . .' that speaks about the beauty surrounding the Triplicane temple

Yadhumagi Nindrai was rendered in Ragam Nadanamakriya .

The final piece was a very emotive rendering of the bhakti-laden verse 'Orumaiyudan Ninadhu Tirumalaradi Ninaikindra Uthamar Uravu Vendum. .' , from Ramalinga Adigalar's Deiva Mani Maalai , on Kanda Kottam Muthukumaraswamy temple.

A song on marundISvarar of tiruvAnmiyUr (aushadapuri) where my parents now live, and another on kalpaka mAtA of mayilai (kapAlISvaram) where my grandparents used to live - would have been made my day. HR - any idea if these kshEtra series concerts are being recorded for commercial release?
