Radhika - I was not aware that Sri Thooran composed varNams. Thank you for bringing this absolutely lovely composition to my attention. Has anyone rendered this varNam - is there an audio available?
Since it is not in a typical padavarNam format, I wonder how you will structure the pUrvAnga. I guess, you could treat each caraNam like caraNasvara sAhityam, but then, what will serve as the caraNam? For me, in a pdavarNam, the short caraNam symbolizes the shift in the varNam (both in terms of slightly faster pace, as well as a subtle/not too subtle change in the sentiment expressed) in addition to serving as an anchor for the caraNasvaras and the caraNasvara sAhitam...so the lack of a clear caraNam here does bother me.

Captivated by the music (iSaiyil) emanating from the bamboo (vEyin) flute (kuzhal) of the lord whose complexion (vaNNanin) is like that of a black (kAr) cloud (mugil), dark (kAr)-tressed (kuzhal) ladies (Aicciyar) forgot (marandar) their duties (kaDamai); in the forrest (kAnam tanil), intoxicated (mayangi) cows (paSu) with (uDan) their calves (kanru) stood (irundana) around, immobile (ninru), like (pOl) statues with their hunger (paSi) forgotten (marandadu). And what (ennavO) about the merits (puNNiyam) that must have been accumulated by the river (nadi) yamuna? Who (yAr) is the person capable of (vallavan) of talking about/describing (Sollavum) its (adan) greatness (perumai)?
