Req: kadir kAma lyrics, meaning
This is a Paapanaasam Shivan krithi in rAga kAmbhoji. Please also furnish tALa information if known. It is sung by P. Unnikrishnan on track 4 of his Vasantha Guhane: Murugan Songs to raise hopes for cancer victims CD.

I felt 'kazhal' here refers to the foot(feet) of the Lord rather than the ornament and 'pUnkazhal (or pUngazhal,) refers to the flower like foot(feet) of the Lord. kazhal is used to denote the feet in many places.

The word கழல் has two meanings:

'ariya'- though for the purpose of singing it is enough to know the word as such, there is a difference between 'ariya'(rare) and 'aRiya' ,(to know). For a non-tamilian it may not matter much, but I feel it is better to use the correct letter so that those who know tamizh, will understand better. Otherwise ,down the years, there is a fear of this being again transliterated in tamizh to 'ariya',which means 'rare'.
In another thread on vaggeykaras, there is a discussion going on between the usage of the word
'mukunda' and 'mukula'.
Just a thought which came to my mind. There are many such examples.

I have often faced this problem. Now also, while I am translating the SS, punnAga varAli Tamil kRti 'ennEramum', I am facing the same problem. But in my opinion, it is better to transliterate as 'r' even when 'R' is meant. The reason is, the pronunciation of 'RR' is different in Tamil and Telugu - btw - telugu also has 'R' which, according to my dictionary, has since been discarded. But even my wife finds it difficult when I use wrong 'r' in place of 'R' - she knows telugu script. As regards pronunciation of 'RRa' - in Tamil it is pronounced as 'Tra' (muRRam - as muTram); but in Telugu it is pronounced as 'rra' (guRRam - as gurram) which is not permissible in Tamil.
A Telugu cannot be excused for wrong pronunciation of a Telugu word; A Tamil cannot be excused for wrong pronunciation of a Tamil word. One cannot be careless about one's own tongue. But what is really happening is different. But then it is a different topic.
