Lyrics of Sarasuda ninne kori Varnam by PSI pl

Post by Sundar Krishnan »

When I searched for Sarasuda Ninnekori Varnam in the link : http://www.karnatik.com/varnams.shtml, I found 2 varnams listed there with identical starting words, and in the same Ragam Saveri, by 2 diff composers :

Sarasuda ninne kori chala marulu konnadira (tv) - Saveri - Adi - Kottavasal Venkatrama Iyer (http://www.karnatik.com/c3147.shtml)

Sarasuda ninne kori chala marulu konnadira (tv) - Saveri - Adi - Patnam Subramania Iyer

Then, when I searched in this site, I got for eg, this ref : http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4419, which too simply states "Sarasuda Ninnekori" Saveri Varnam etc.

1) So, when nothing further is qualified, which one of the above 2 varnams, is the default varnam that is being referred to ?

2) I would like to know the Lyrics of the 2nd varnam above by PSI.

Thanks in advance.

There is a doubt about the authorship of this varNa. The mudra venkaTEsha was used both by Patnam and his guru Kottavasal Venkatarama Iyer. Here are the lyrics:

sarasuDa ninnE (tv). rAgA: sAvEri. Adi tALA.

P: sarasuDa ninnE kOri cAla marulu konnadirA
A: girini vElayu shrI venkaTEsha karuNinca idE samayamu
C: dAnipai nenaruna IvELa

As I mentioned in Msg # 1, I already have the Lyrics that you have mentioned from :
http://www.karnatik.com/c3147.shtml

So, in effect, can we infer that we should have had only ONE entry for this Varnam in http://www.karnatik.com/varnams.shtml, and preferably, under the name of Kottavasal Venkatrama Iyer (and thus, that becomes the default one in this case).
If necessary, they could add a comment on the doubtful nature of the authorship as a note by the side.

Thanks.
