Along with all of my brothers and sisters rasikas, I felt pain and anguish at the demise of Kalpakam Mami, with whom our Sandhyavandanam Family had a long and close association over five decades.
Besides many facets of Kalpakam Mami's as a Veena Maestro belonging to Tanjore school, we have lost a Maestro with authentic patanthara of Mudduswami Dikshita compositions and uncompromisingly Classical.

Just heard the two pieces posted by Vainika and Davalangi. Very beautiful listening.

I offer my humble obeisances to the departed sublime artist. Although I did not know her personally, I can sense she was a Divine person from the many posts honoring her. I can only offer my inadequate sympathies to the family and her devoted sishyas.

Naada Inbam has arranged a programme at 6 pm on May 4, 2011 @ Raga Sudha Hall to pay homage to Smt Kalpakam Swaminathan .

Tributes will be paid on that occasion by S R Janakiraman, R. Vedavalli, Prof Ramanathan , Pappu Venugopala Rao, R.S. Jayalakshmi and Y. Prabhu.

Sri Venkateswaran ( Isai ) will conduct the proceedings.

This will be followed by the screening of a Video recording of Mami's Concert.

It was a sad moment last evening..

Prof SRJ spoke of mami as his guru. Smt. Vedavalli spoke of her as a friend and a senior musician. Prof Ramanathan gave a overview of her musical background, family and guru parampara details. Sri Rao spoke of her musical vidwat and her greatness as a musician. Sri Prabhu spoke of mami's family and other non-musical aspects from an insider's perspective. Smt Jayalakshmi spoke of mami as a vainika and her expertise and the greatness and finesse of her handling the veenai.

Everybody who spoke at the occasion spoke of mami's greatness as a person, as a musician and covered all the aspects of her personality. I dont think i can put in black-and-white all that was said about mami, without getting emotional and hence would prefer staying away from such an effort.


A part of mami's concert held at the residence of Sri Jeyaraaj and Smt Jaysri organised by our group was played after all the tributes.


I am sure mami's soul would have reached Mayavaram Abhayamba sannidhi and become one with the divine goddess whom mami considered as her guiding force..


Yet another tribute meeting is planned for the 22nd May at Krishna Gana Sabha.

I am Maheswari Venkitaraman and would like to inform that an untolerable loss,I am one of her student and my concert at Raghasudha Hall during SVK"s present mami herself came and blessed me her concert with attractive gamakam is still hearing in my years and recorded in my inner mind, I recall once I went to a class with my anxious mother (as I am a visually challenged) mami forgot take fees even after a week, I remembered her but she ddid"nt. He told my mother that Kozhandai than nanna vasikkarale kavalai padathengo nanna varuval and that happend, now I am in Madurai AIR as veena Staff Aaartist having more than 19 years of experience recited for national praogramme and have been reciting all the prestigious sabhas because of her blessings, she is more than a vainika of present days with a pure mind and impartial, a great guru for me who guided me for my life career, I pray that she should always with us for our success and for the upliftment to increase veena recital similar to a vocal concert Maheswari a humble devotee and shishyai.
