Nalinakanthi as janya of Sarasangi
Why is Nalinakanthi classified as a Janya of Sarasangi. It seems to a naive listener like me closer in "spirit" (whatever that means) to Sankarabharanam.

Hi Shibi - Guess this classification is based on the general convention followed - a ragam is marked as a janya of a the first melakarta ragam in the 72-melakarta-chart that has all the notes of the ragam

I didn't know of this convention.
That gives poor sarasAngi a janya, though.
But that way, shouldn't haMsadhwani be a janya of sarasAngi too?
Or at least shankarAbharaNam? Why kalyANi?
