A friend of mine is keen on some compositions on Lord Lakshmana and on Saint Ramanujacharya. Any thoughts, directions, notes, lyrics, notations, recordings would all be much appreciated.

Because of HIS mercy only, in this world we became vaishNavAs. Because of him only we are able to see the "tirumani"(NAmAm on lord venkateswara swamy face).He only revealed and spread the "AshTAkshari mantram"( in tirukOshTiyUr, a village in TamilNadu , after he recieved the mantrafrom his Acharya, he climbed the post in front of the temple and shouted that who ever has interest to know the way to salvation, can come and listen and revealed it to all the interested people). RAMANUJACHARYA only revealed all the secrets of the VEDAS ( through the commentary of "BRAHMA SUTRA", for wchich HE has been praised byGodess Saraswati as "SRI BHASHYAKARA", means "THE COMMENTATOR", though there exists so many commentaries for Brahma sutra, she accepted HIS one only). HE only showed the way of SARANAGATI (surrenderence). HE only re-established "SAMASRAYANAM"(the process of having conch and discus symbols of Lord NARAYANA on one's shoulders). HE is the sweetly talking GOD who walked in front of us.

RAMANUJACHARYA only set the rules for the "PRAPANNAS" (people who surrendered to lord NARAYANA). HE is the only one who shows the way to salvation with abundant MERCY(That is why he is called "vishNu lOka maNi manDapa mArgadAyi"). HE is the one who climbed the hills of Sri vEnkaTEswara smoothly on his knees. Very interestingly, kanakadAsa has a pantuvarALi piece extolling rAmanujAcArya. I have heard TNS sing this one.

This is a composition of Sri Narayana das who left this world just a few years back. HE used to reside at siddhASrama, the ASrama of sage viSvAmitra where sri rAma protected the sacriofice of the sages and killed mArica and subahu. He used to worship mother sItA and UrmilA as his sisters. The wedding anniversary of sri rAma is still carried out at the ASrama for a continuous 9-day period. This function attracts thousands from all the nearby states. He has composed many bhajans in the hindi and bhojpuri languages. This is one of his compositions on sri lakshmana.

which city is siddhASramA, krishnaa?

It is in Buxar, Bihar. From Varanasi it takes about 4 to 5 hours by car. I have had the fortune of going there. My parents have even been there for the rAma vivAha utsava. They say that they could experience the real mercy of Srimati sita devi present there. At that time, the whole city participates in the occassion. All the people empty 2 to three rooms in their houses to accommodate the visitors from outside. And the festivites go on for 9 days.
