Concert rating: Very good to Excellent

kRSNa mesmerized us with a 2.5 hour blissful concert. He sang hiraNmayim and aLivENi endu in ati viLamba kala, both of which were sedate and full of soukhyam. I'm sure tillai naTarAjar would have answered (gOpAla)kRSNa's touching and soulful plea, irakkam varAmal pOnadu enna kAraNam after that hindustAni bEhag rendition in a serene viLamba kAlam. His suTTum vizhi sudar tAn has an beautiful and imaginative set of chittasvarAs. I think must have been composed by himself. It follows Semmangudi Mama's chittasvaram patterns for mahArAja svAti tirunAl's rAgamAlikA kRtis - one svara set for each stanza and then one line of svaras in each of the rAgas in the reverse order at the end. RKSK's replies were also wonderful. There was lot of soukhyam in his lalitA and todi rAgams. There was also lively exchanges of svaras in SrIranjani and toDi between him and TMK. KAP followed both of them like a shadow. His tani was decent. We also had some fun with Krishna's witty answers in the end during the Q & A with Krishna.

This was the first concert under the CFAA banner. Rasikas in Colorado at now hungry for more concerts of longer durations. :)

ksrimech (Krishna),
And the main was by, of and for Krishna. I have changed the order of the prepositions, to suit the occasion here ;)

If the nOTTusvaram is the one MMI popularised, it is gA ma ga ri ga pA rI ga sA, and tishra naDai.

It must have been so good to listen to a proper lalitA AlApanai!

I am stunned and am rubbing my eyes... Did the concert indeed start with a varnam ?

I thought hiranmayim was usually sung in 1 kalai roopakam? Did TMK sing the version from the SSP?

@ganeshkant, Haha yes, varNam at the beginning of the concert. He did surprise some of us that he gave us a treat without his usual gimmicks. :P

@Rasika911, TMK did stick to the SSP version. But it was slower than the usual viLambakAlA popularized by Smt MS. It fit well in a 2-kaLai rUpala tALam than 1-kaLai. May be TMK himself may be the right person to clarify.
