Summer Institute (mridangam) at the Eastman School of Music

Post by RKrishnamurthy »

The Summer Institute in South Indian Percussion directed by Rohan will take place between July 11 and 15 at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester. These Institutes usually conducted only by the faculty of the school are meant for participants at various levels. That this is the third year in succession an institute is being included is a positive sign in terms of his efforts to bring the rich South Indian rhythmic aspects to the western classical musicians. The institute provides one college credit to high school students which is an added attraction. Another notable feature is that this year at least three Indian students, all under 15 years of age and two coming from as far away as Texas, have registered for the Institute. This is to be regarded as a welcome sign. The following site provided the details as available to the public based on the one page announcement Eastman School brought out on the respected journal Percussive Notes.
