Bhairavi’s programme for the month of June ( 5-6-11 )was a vocal concert by Dr.R Ganesh with Anaiyampatti venkata subramaniam on the violin and Madipakkam Suresh on the mridangam. Here is the menu :
-Charukesi varnam
Mohanam invocation on Ganesha
Jyothiswarupini -
Durbar Lochana
Sama- Thillai stalamenru
Panthuvarali-saramegani
Ananda bhairavi-samaganapriye
Kamboji- kuzhaloodhi manamellam OVK
Behag- Adugiran ennul
Raga malika- senthamizh nadennum
Plus of course on popular requests his Guru Maharajapuram’s reputed Bho Sambho, Srichakra raja, thunga theera virajam etc.
Dr Ganesh is gifted with a voice which is a replica of his guru’s. If only he has a little more gathram in his physique as well as in his voice timbre it would not be possible to distinguish from outside. The concert was well balanced with adequate share of tamil compositions. The main kamboji piece would have sparkled better if it was preceded by a fast moving number instead of the languorous ananda bhairavi.( Bhairavi sabha requests every artist to include in the menu card one composition of OVK and this would be our little contribution to bring to light this great ignored genius of a composer.)
Dr Ganesh’s alapana swaram were strictly classical and pleasant. It looked as though he sang with delight and effortless ease. No belabouring. The young violinist belongs to a musical family(.His father Anaiyampatti Ganesan started as a violinist and is now a Jalatharangam vidvan- a rare instrument now.)
He has a promising future.Madipakkam Suresh ,as usual, did his job to the point. A satisfying concert on the whole. rajagopalan

i understand from my relative who attended the concert that the main piece in kambodhi was "marakathavalleem" and that "kuzhaloodhi" was also rendered in succession to the main item.

being away from pondy robbed me of listening to this concert and as usual Rajagopalan Sir's vivid and masterly analysis of the renderings makes me feel i missed a good concert;thanks for the details
