16th Anniversary of the Mahavidwan Ramanathapuram Late Shri M N Kandaswamy, (disciple of Palani M Subramania Pillai) will be held on 10th June 2011 at Raga Sudha, from 6 15 pm onwards.

Congratulations and wishing the function the best of success. MNK was one of the most trustworthy and loyal of PSP's disciples--quiet and unobtrusive in his own way but would not hesitate to challenge if PSP's reputation was ever impugned.
It is heartening to see --in this day and age--that there are true torch-bearers like Balaji who diligently honor their gurus and commemorate their lives.

My guru always used to tell me whatever u do doesnt matter to me ...But you should continue to do the guru puja at Pudukkottai, Palani Gurupuja every year without fail. I have also heard Palani Subramania Pillai at the insistence of Palani Muthiah Pillai (father) built the samadhi of Manpundia Pillai at Pudukkottai. Such is the reverence shown by our masters towards the tradition and guru. We just try to continue with their grace and blessings. I still see my guru sitting below the picture of Palani Subramania Pillai in his residence at Mylai Ranganathan Street eventhough there were two green sofa chairs and a sofa adjacent to the PSP Picture. He adorned the picture with a nice frame and also made a small Mandapam in his residence with utmost care and illuminated with serial lights and i have never seen our Guru sit in the sofa adjacent to the picture of his guru. He always sat on the floor. Most of the times our guru was pensive and rarely he talked. But those times he talked he used to recall the greatness of the masters and always stressed on the importance of Guru Puja.

It is sad that the normally-good sound guy could cont get the mic near to Sri Mani's mouth, but kept up the volume on the mridangam.

Among the good attendance were quiet a few musicians. One member of the MNK "family" that I have not seen for a long time, Neyveli Venkatesh, was there. I used to see him on his visits to London but, somehow, never see him here!
